Sue the City for pot hole damage?

Anyone ever have any luck getting reimbursed from the city for damaged wheels caused by potholes?

Couldn't see the pot hole because it was dark, the road was wet and the hole was full of water. Now I have two trashed tires and one slightly bent rim. Anyone have any ideas on fixing the rim? Can I "massage" it back into shape with a brass mallet? Will I need to warm the metal first? The ding is on the inside lip and is less than 1/2" in depth.

I don't know how it is in your city, but Chicago has a dept. for that. Last I heard, 92% of the claims were paid. I'm guessing the 8% that weren't were fraud or something similar. Just give them a call and find out what you need to do next.

That's a very local question. In some cities it's easy. In others it's impossible.

You need to ask locals about this.

My friend had a ball joint break after hitting a raised manhole cover and my town reimbursed him for the damages. It's a town to town thing, go to town hall and make it a serious matter and see what you get.

I say yes. Its your tax dollars at work repairing roads. If they can't do their job, then at least pay for the damages to your car.
What you most likely will be caught with is "Mr. So&So... could you avoid the pothole?"

Local question unfortunatly.

Here yes. A pothole in interstate or city roads is reimbursable by the city. Of course it would be nice if you had a police report for it!

Sue? No, probably not. A buddy of mine's 3s got gnarly wheel rash from a pothole and he just called the city (didn't threaten to sue), explained the situation, and they reimbursed him for wheel repair.
