Not really. It's alot easier to just remove it from the car it's not that hard just time consuming. Mark everything and take ur time.
To do it the right way you need to get the head and block decked. So you would need to take it to the machine shop

I'm not actually planning on rebuilding anytime soon - need to replace cylinder head cover #3, might do a head gasket just to make sure. I was more interested in it as an intellectual exercise.
And I work at a company that has a machine shop... so all good there.
