Yeah I'm fairly certain that's what it's for. They re-routed it near the end of this downpipe/exhaust most likely to reduce the amount of turbulence it would generate inside the pipe when it joined. Since it's at the end, any turbulence will be swiftly forced out the pipes anyway so not much rpoblem in flow.

Yeah... Jon (MDC)'s car pretty much sounds like an M-gay-4 coming down the street.....

I run all 3" with no restrictions...although, at the moment, I'm running open _ _ _ _ _ elbow. I'm not allowed to say the _ _ _ _ _ word because this is naturally aspirated section. :x:

thanks boost...noone knows the exhaust flange size that allows the cat to bolt up to the downpipe?

It's just a standard 2-bolt flange. Buy the proper gasket somewhere, and match up a flange at any exhaust shop.
Either that, or I think MDC sells flanges...
I've got a 3" mild steel Random Tech flange, but that's 3"...

You can pick up 10' sections of 2.5" mild steel exhaust pipe for around $25 if you can get garage pricing at a parts store. Otherwise, it's around $50
