I am wanting a Street/Strip cam and trying to figure what lift and duration I would need. I read that you shouldn't go over 280 degrees on the duration.

What lift and duration should I use for a daily driven Supra wanting more power??

lumbchuck: PLEASE do NOT make multiple threads about the same topic. it's really annoying, and will actually yeild you LESS answers than if you posted one thread with your specific needs/questions.

i merged your two threads into one, and contained it into one post. please keep that in mind for the future.

How do you go about selecting cams? Is it a hit or miss process with 7m's, or do you send out your head flow #'s to a company and they recommend some to you? Does it help if you have flow #'s available, so you can choose cams that are right for car? Is it comp cams, or crane that will make you custom cams? Some guy has already done that.

we dont have small block chevy and ford motors so you wont need to even look for upgraded cams until you are over 700rwhp. I believe there are people making that on stock cams anyways. Spend your money on something that will actually improve at a smaller level such as safc, lex afm, walbro fp, 550's, etc.. Oh and use the SEARCH tab it is your friend!!!!

Hmm... perhaps you should heed your own advice and search the topic yourself. Cams actually DO help, regardless of HP. Ian just said he's using Wade Cams and like them, so..... does that mean that the purchase was pointless?

Ian: what? you no run injetterz? :icon_conf

they are good for that yes but a higher lift and longer duration help regardless it really don't matter too terribly much on the intake side cause it's forced induction but the exhaust side is where it's at. why do you think when porting at machine shops they do focus on the intake but mainly the exhaust side? cause only the piston is pushing air out but not nearly as forceful as a turbo is pushing it in.:icon_bigg

A lot of MK4 guys use 264 cams. From the dyno charts I've seen, they can get you a good 50rwhp when used at high boost with a decent sized turbo. The nice thing about the 264's is that there is no real sacirifice in the power under the curve.
