So my friend PJ was out of town when the rains & floods came through Atlanta. He got home Friday night.

I'll let him tell the story:

PJ said:
woke up Saturday morning with multitudes of things to do. As we were leaving the house I noticed something odd about my car. The interior of the windows were covered with condensation....hmmmm. It was raining, we were leaving so I didn't think anything of it. Ashley and I got up Sunday and it was beautiful outside. It was a perfect day to hop on my motorcycle and ride for a little while since it had been almost two weeks without any saddle time. I gear up, kiss Ashley, promise I will be careful, walk outside open my car door to grab my tank bag and SURPRISE!!!!! No it was not butt sex......It was green, brown and black mold fest covering the upholstery and interior of my car. Not to mention a funky smell of butt and feet like scents rushing into my nose with a quickness. Now I know why there was so much condensation in my car on Saturday. Fuck.....it's all I could think or say for a moment.

Here are the pics:

He just heard back from his insurance company. The car has been declared a total loss.

You guys with leaky hatches and targa tops, remember this post.

Wow. Came real close to happening to a truck of mine once. Drain got blocked up with trash and the incline I parked on was the lowest of the road with concrete walls all around me. I would usually park there to avoid people that could possibly damage my truck with their doors or what not.
Luckily I caught it! Water was almost waist deep I was very glad I had a lift kit on the Tundra. Thank god I missed that. It was very close. So now everytime it does rain I do park on the highest points possible..

Or the poor guy was just nasty and drove the car around hot, sweaty, and naked 99% of the time.

He's a white collar IT professional, I doubt it. :biglaugh:

Holy shit - is he going to buy it back from the insurance company? Should be able to strip the interior and clean it real well - as well as make a couple pennies in the process ;)

No, he's buying a new Jeep. Hell, I wouldn't want that damned thing back either.

Had the same thing happen to my truck, but on a much smaller scale. The driver's seatbelt and carpet in the area got moldy. We've since figured out the driver's rear most side window leaks slightly.

Yeah, restoring a project car with a totaled interior is one thing - you actually want to do that.. but restoring a daily driver? I might do it if I wanted the "challenge", and to save a little money but I may not be the happiest camper about it.
Mold on/in the steering wheel is bad. Doesn't that essentially mean he has to replace the already expensive steering wheel [with controls], plus the uber-expensive airbag contained inside? The cost of that alone can "total" some cars.

^ Exactly......

Plus I'm sure the title would inform anyone who was thinking of purchasing the car down the road when he wanted something else.

A/C ducts are prolly full of mold too. All behind the dashboard, and areas you can't reach. Mold would just fester and keep growing until it crawls up the A pillar. I wouldn't try to restore that.

I dont know that they would even let you buy that back. It seems like it would be too much of a health risk. I gutted a moldy bathroom and it made me feeling sick for a couple weeks.

People dont realize how dangerous mold is, it can cause many health problems and death.

That's an 03-05 accord probably a dx by the color of the interior and the fact it's a manual. It's only worth about 4k if you were to sell it yourself and lik 3k if you were to trade it in so I could see the thing being totaled easily. IF he does get It back let me know. I'll buy the motor/tranny off him.

that stuff is extremely easy to remove and clean...pretty much the entire interior is as well.

there are also rubber plugs to drain all of the places that trap water (including the box-section side members)

edit: that was before I saw the pictures! (work comp)

fuck that, I'd throw in the keys and never look back.
