when i make full boost @18psi on the 57 trim ct26 it almost sounds like some one making a bollon scream, like when you stretch the mouth piece. should i be worried? there"s no smoke, not loosing oil, no shaft play at all. the turbo has about 6,000 miles on it. thanks for any help

Sounds like a small boost leak, like a clamp is a little loose, or a small crack in your IC piping. I had a sound like that from a small boost leak before.

Turbo death whine usually happens at all speeds.

I'd say it's likely a boost leak. The stock plastic pieces in the IC piping path tend to fail after 20+ years and start to split. Good place to start looking, anyway.

I'd build the $5 boost leak tester and try to find any boost leaks you have with it.

Unless you have a smoke machine, of course.

i found a guy with a smoke machine, and from what i hear he is cool about letting you get in there with him and help. always a good way to learn something as well.

i have all had brand new hardpipes and a total of five coupler. my bov has a oring at the flange, i will check that as well. thanks for the tips so far. sure hope its not turbo death:nono:

^^^^it spins smooth and free. Is it possible that the turbo is leaking boost?

i am going to check the bov o ring right now.

edit: ok bov oring is set, and checked the turbo again to see if it scrapes. it seem brand new like the day i got it.

just wanted to add something that i forgot. When i get into boost and let off the gas quickly, the engine seems to stumble or feel like i hit something like a rabit.

thanks

YES! It's possible you have a boost leak. What do you think I said before?

ummm i understand that it possible to have a boost leak....but from the turbo itself! that would be kinda bad, and hard to find. No smoke machine is going to help with that...or will it:1zhelp:

and there is some shaft play that i did not notice before, mabey I'm leaking boost through the turbo.

so after i checked the turbo, to make sure it was spinning good and not making any noise. i go for a test drive and now the noise is louder and sound more like a SUPPER CHARGER!

so i have had this 57trim turbo that was done by performance technice for 6 months now. why did it fail so quickly, when i took very good care of it?

i would make a sound clip but i have the shittest cameras.

I once had an exhaust leak that sounded like a balloon scream, then later sounded like a supercharger. It turned out to be the exhaust manifold gasket had a leak. It only made the sound while in boost... at first. Later, I started to hear it at idle.

Yep, exhaust leak pre-turbo will make that sound as well. Especialyl check the turbo to manifold.

Do you reinstall all the factory supports for the turbo?

Check those studs, might be time to upgrade if you haven't already. The brace is there for a reason. Also a flex pipe at some point on the dp helps reduce strain on ex mani studs.

if the studs keep coming loose jump strait to the 7/16ths stud repair from driftmotion. Might as well if your puting a new gasket on. Once they loosen up again, it will destroy the new gasket in no time.
