so under acceleration, the drivetrain seems to be quiet, but after letting off the gas i hear this horrible whining noise. (i feel like its coming from the tranny) another problem is around 65+mph i feel all these vibrations coming from the rear part of the drivetrain. i already have re balanced all 4 wheels, and changed out the center carrier bearing from a junkyard which was probably shitty. any ideas?

Id get under the car and check for play in the carrier bearing. Depending on how bad it is they can be only noticeable at around 65mph. If its real bad it will vibrate every time you start going.

Sounds like the rear differential, drain the fluid and look for chunks or metal or large metal flakes on the magnet (that's attached to the drain plug) or in the fluid. If it's clean then do the same thing with the transmission, but from what you described it sounds like the rear diff.

If it is, make sure you check your driveshaft for binding joints/loose joints and loose/binding carrier bearing before you fix the diff, because if you have a driveshaft problem and don't fix it you could ruin the diff again.

Oh and also, you can use a carrier bearing from an early 90's 2wd ford ranger. You have to make an adapter plate for it, which is easy. I have one in my car and it works fine and only cost about $50 for a new one.

i have the same issue. i thought it was the new wheels, so i got hub centric rings. it doesn't do it all the time, but when it does it's around 65mph.

Yea i have replaced the carrier bearing off of an 88 from the junkyard most likely a messed up one as well. Im going to drain my diff, inspect and refill my diff. And possibly inspect and service the tranny as well. What gear oil should i be looking into using? Brand and weight? Thanks for the input guys

Also im not sure if this plays a roll in this issue but around 85-95mph the car seems "fish tail" not sure if thats the correct term to use but it feels like im losing traction in the rear

ID check the entire rear end. Should be super smooth at those speeds,

For gear oil any 75-80w90 gear oil is fine for both. IF you have a lsd you will need a friction modifier and the correct amount for the amount of fluid in the diff. Ford friction modifier is good stuff and can be purchased at any ford dealer. Can also get some at any toyota.
