Stock Turbo Elbow VS Performance

I know the down pipe is a very important up grade for the mk3's. but how necessary is an upgraded turbo elbow.
will using a stock elbow hinder power levels?

Very important. I would seriously suggest getting a downpipe with the integral elbow, like one from BIC.

yes. if you've ever looked inside of the stock elbow, you'll see how ridiculously restrictive it is! especially compared to, oh, say, a BIC dp.

I was looking at BIC downpipes, i liked what i saw. i'll probly go with one of theirs.

is there any performance gained from using a divorced downpipe VS the standard type?

yes, i dont remember how much hp exactly though.

with the stock elbow the wastegate literally opens into a wall, there is only a 2inch(?) opening behind the turbine. so you dont say stock elbow and performance in the same sentence.

i'm running the regular dp though. spool is SO MUCH BETTER THAN STOCK. i went with it cuz its cheaper, quieter and my goals are not huge.

huge difference between the BIC ddp and the regular dp. if you have the cash, get the DDP, if not, save up for the DDP! you wont regret it!

3" Downpipe with divorced wastegate
This full 3" downpipe features a divorced wastegate exhaust, making less turbulence for the exhaust flowing from the turbo itself. Dyno results have shown gains of 29 whp over a standard 3 inch downpipe setup. Warning: Running the wastegate straight to the atmosphere makes your car LOUD at full boost.

As with all my downpipes, this eliminates the stock heavy restrictive turbo elbow. It has 3/8" thick flanges and bolts to the CT26 turbo and up to the stock or replacement main cat. This dp will increase throttle response and the turbo will spool 13psi at 26-2800 rpm, and keeps pulling hard up to redline. Made from mandrel bent aluminized steel and coated with VHT high temp paint. Includes a new gasket and bolts for the catylic converter flange. Uses the stock O2 sensor and heat shield

A fat kink cast into the factory piece. Nothing comes close to it, why is it there?
