I know the stock rev limit on the 1J is supposed to be 7250 RPM, and I was under the impression the Governor was supposed to be 117mph.

the reason i say "supposed" is because my engine hits rev limit at between 7500 and 7700 (as dictated by my safc)

and i the other day i hit 125 mph (i know not impressive, but i dont feel the need to go that fast)

my question is, does anyone else's stock ECU let them squeak by the factory limits?

I dunno about the rev limit deal, but the speed limiter is right around 124-125mph. So you may have still been under the limit. Also the ECU uses the speed sensor in the gauge cluster to check if your within the limiter, and due to the modifications to the cluster that may or may not work anymore. Also, not connecting the pink wire on the M1 connector will disable the limiter as well.

if you rev slowly, it'll stop around 7250, but if you go wot, mine goes to around 7500 as well (as per my avc-r). i think i logged around 7451 rpms to be exact

yea, i still dont have my cluster working (no tach, fuel gauge, or gauge lights)
but i have my tach on my safc. not sure why. i have the M1 connected, but i'm not too worried about it.
im going to try to get my hands on a new gauge cluster so i can do a better job with the autometer gauges.

hows florida treating you by the way?
a more supra friendly environment....thats where i got mine.

Without the M1 connected you will not have speedcut. The speed signal comes from the speedo through the M1 to the ecu.

The rev limiter is actually 7500rpms.

The Factory ECU from my 1JZ clip (I sold ecu to aaron DM) REVed to 8000-8100RPMS I dont know if the factory EPROM was hacked? but no mines/Sard/Blitz sticker on it Didnt look like there was a tech tom board or any rom board for that matter added into it either. Since 99% of the toyota tuned ecus use piggyback rom boards this must have been the exception.

If I was aaron I would be investigating this ECU closely because if this could be duplicated and cheeply done this would be the best mod for aftermarket cam engines

The MPH limit was not active because no speed signal went into my ECU cut the pink wire:naughty:

Actually the one time it just didn't hook at all in 1st it got up to 8300 for a split second before I had time to let off. And it has also gone over 120mph on stock ecu... Had to have been getting close to 130 but I wasn't looking at the speedo anymore :) Top of 3rd for me is 110 and I was well into 4th gear.

it may of peaked that high, but the stock ecu wont run that high. I've had my bone stock 91 7m (read 6400 rpm rev limiter) read 7200 on a afc.

J man speaks the truth.. I've seen countless 1J's hit 7500 under throttle.

^^^ Agree,It's 7200 OEM.. If you hit it at Wot it will over rev by inertia.
My SAFC sometimes reads 8100+

My ECUs rev limitation was ~8100 the needle would bounce on it as long as you hold the throttle open. its not miss shift inertia BS. Maybe there is factory ecus that do this.

Well as I'm thinking about it, I was under the impression that 1JZ's from different cars actually having different rev limiters. (Soarer, Chaser, Supra, etc).

...Because some of you via AFC claim 7450, 7500, 8100, 8300...and for being the stock ECU, that's a lot of jumping around unless we've got BS'er's here.

Someone please tell me otherwise,

Jeff

Don't know what to tell you here... other than I can go out right now and hit 8100 rpm if I wanted to, and take a pic of the SAFC showing the peak, or try and video the pull lol... It sure doesn't seem like its just inertia letting me go 1000 rpm more, it will pull to 8100 (8300 once) THEN hit a limiter.

Oh, by no means am I necessarily saying that you're lying...:)

But I've heard on a couple different occaisions before that the rev limiter was higher on the ____ 1JZ than the ____ 1JZ. (I don't remember which way it went).

Who knows. It could be bad word of the grapevine. :)
