Okay, my stock IC that i had was chewed up badly so i got one off of a friend that is in really good shape...well the car was freshly painted and looks great(just a shame the idiot didn't mask up the INTERCOOLER:nono: ...so now its pretty much all black. would this hurt the performance? i wouldn't think it would since its all dry...but i could be wrong. someone correct me.:icon_conf

Can somebody with a good physics background clear this up. Ive heard people saying that black will cool better then light colors, but im almost positive it would only have an effect when light rays are concerned. Im gonna research because i just dont buy it.

I come from a land down under
Stock is black sounds like you have an aftermarket IC or it's been painted Silver.

There are a LOT of debates about this subject some believe that Black radiates heat better while others argue that putting the paint on is a barrier to the heat transfer........ I've seen piles of data supporting both views and for me I think any difference either way is minuscule and doesn't matter.

The best compromise would be a Black anodised Aluminium IC.

If a system is that marginal that paint or no paint makes a difference it's time for a bigger better system.

I paint mine as I prefer the stealth look as hanging a big arse shiny Silver IC out front is asking for a defect as it's screaming "LOOK AT ME I'M MODIFIED"

Black helps to radiate heat more efficiently just the same way it helps to absorb heat better.

However in a car "radiator" or intercooler where the radiation aspect accounts for only about 3% of the heat transfer, it doesn't really matter whatever you do with the color.

Convection (from metal to air) is the main heat transfer method when air is flowing over parts to be cooled. With no forced convection (airflow from car movement or fan) the radiation aspect of heat transfer would be larger but still minuscule in comparison to other factors.

Radiation transfer works in the visible and non visible light spectrum. Just because humans can't see it, doesn't mean it's not there.

LOL, if you have to rely on the color of the intercooler for the 1/100th of a degree that it would make, it's time to buy an aftermarket intercooler.

No, it doesn't matter what color it is.
