stock ECU tuning?

I don't know anything about tuning, now that that is out of the way, I was wondering if there is anyway to tune the stock ecu, all I can do is find stand alone ems's and those are hella expensive. A friend of mine has a third gen F-body and all he has to do is burn chips, is there anything like that for us? I ran searches for this and found absolutely nothing, I'm just wondering and don't plan on doing any real tuning until I upgrade my fuel.

First things first.NO you can t tune our stock supra ecu like the 93 lt1 formula/trans am. I personally own a 97 ta ram air and tuning software is expensive at around $500. What are your mods and plans for your car? Then i can explain what you need next.

right now all I have is a 57 trim ct26 running stock psi, but in the future I want to get a new fuel pump, injectors, fpr, intercooler and hard pipes, and of course a full 3in exhaust. I want to make between 350-400whp and have it daily drivable as well.

Best choice is stand alone. I spent hours setting up FCD's, boost controllers, and maf-t when instead a stand alone can just be used and you can have a level of tune ability and peace at mind.

Depending on everything you want. Cheap wise you can go with piggyback systems. I have a map ecu "new" for sale. Has built in map sensor and you can get rid of the maf sensor but can only tune inj's. Another setup but a little more expensive is maft-pro does inj and ign tuning.

I just recently pulled 381hp/420tq out of mine. I have 57trim (15 psi), 560cc inj, afpr, walbro pump, lex afm, 3.5 in exhaust (turbo back), and an safc2. Have not hit fuel cut, or had the need for any "defender" devices at this point.

I am actually curious as to when i will hit fuel cut? havent hit at 18 psi, still running rich too?

^ your safc is acting like a fuel cut defender. fuel cut has nothing to do with fuel or af ratios. Its a limit on the AFM's hz output the ecu will allow.

Ok thanks Grim, that does make sense, but now what about at 18psi with the safc zeroed out (no tune) is that just because of the lex and 560s? either way i am satisfied with it, but wanna get more out of it, but not sure on how far i should go with the safc, just to reach its limit. some say no more than -20% well i got a good curve up to -20% and still running in the 10.2 afrs 15psi.

Dont wanna thread jack so grim if you got any advice on this or anyone else that has experience please pm me.

I think I'm just going to sit back and fiddle with ^89s^ setup minus the safc until I can buy a stand alone, I just like the idea of total piece of mind. Granted its a long ways off, so I might change my mind at some point.

was that at the wheels or at the fly?

if your pulling 20% and af ratios are stil rich, lower fuel pressure by 2%, zero out the safc settings and start over.

the afm doesnt read psi either, the air volume is mearsured in HZ. So 18 psi may very well be possible on any trim ct26. I couldnt get past 15-16psi on my sp61gt (bigger turbo flows more volume per psi then smaller turbo) with out a safc though..

Hatchet yes that is at the wheels. i am trying to get the printout so i can post it. tuner is out of town now and printer was fu**** up at the time.

I know that my turbo (dm 57trim) will put out 18psi easy, hits it quick in 4th and 5th gear, but cant stay in it too long cause by that time in 4th i am at 120mph. (highway) If i lower fuel psi and reset safc that means ill have to get back on the dyno, which i cant afford to do right now. Can i leave safc where its at, maybe back it out a few %, lower fuel pressure and still be safe? Or can i just up the boost to make up for running rich lol.

My goal is to push the engine right to the line get as much out of it as i can and still be safe to drive. ( i do not boost all the time just for fun or passing) usually just cruising around low (1-4 psi) or no boost.

Also jsut out of curiosity what would be the max boost psi one would run on stock internals, with supporting mods? mhg and studs

motor is not the limiting factor, maintence and tune is.

no you can not up the boost to make up for a rich condition, how would this even work with a 1:1 rising rate fpr?
leave your tune alone or pay to play.

I can do that was only curious about it not gonna dick with it right now. Soon as i get paid i am hitting the dyno again, gonna drop fuel psi 2% and zero safc as suggested and go from there again.
