I would first advise that if you think that is ruining your engine bay you have issues. There are things far worse looking then a AFM. Second, the only way to get rid of that is somethign along the liens of a Maft T, or a stand alone. There are plenty of people using these and it does not bother them. This thread is like ( can i remove my EGR ) Charcoal canister, or do I need a radiator, it's ugly.

:sarcasm:

I'm sure you're talking about the housing. Take it off, and clean it, and then paint it. I painted mine gloss black. Looks great, but I don't have a real good shot of it to show you.

89supraa - the bottom line on this subject is twofold:

1) To get rid of anything on the motor you really, really need to know what it's purpose is and that is not always obvious (the EGR is a perfect example). "Clean up the engine bay" crusades is a sure fire way to make the car run like crap.

2) The 7M depends on the AFM for air flow into the motor...it's failure (or it missing) will cause the ECU to enter fail safe mode. You have to go to an alternate way of measuring air flow...the best is to switch over to speed density. As mentioned, a MAFT Pro or HKS VPC (both piggybacks)...or, a standalone EMS (AEM, Motec, Stinger, etc) is the only way. I'd stay away from the MAF blow through method.

I'm closing this thread...why don't you step back and re-access. Function beats form every time ;)
