Hi,

Just wondering what you guys are seeing for coolant temp, I have my temp probe in the upper rad. hose, and in 85 degree weather, it sits steady at about 180 reguardless of speed. when i shut it down it rises to about 195.

just wondering if this sounds like a normal temp range.

also, at idle, my oil pressure sits at about 18psi, and about 40 - 50 psi during normal driving. again, does this sound normal?

i just started daily driving my new 1jz, so i just want to make sure my numbers are normal,

thanks guys,
Trevor

I have a 2jzgte with stock twins.
I will tell you about my oil pressure which I think is :aigo: to much!!!!
At idle (operating temps) I have 35-40 psi (2.2 - 2.4 kgm) of oil pressure
and at cruising (3k) I got about 80-90 psi (4.8 - 5.4 kgm),and when I do full
throttle I got 120 - 130 psi (7.2 - 8.0)..I peak my stock oil pressure gauge!
I have both 7m oil pressure sensor (new from toyota) and defi oil sensor
on a sandwitch plate before the oil filter.

Is something wrong with my oil pressure???? Everybody say to me that I
have to much oil pressure!

when i first start my car (first 30 seconds) it hits 80-90 (autometer mech. gauge) then once the oil becomes a little more viscous, it settles down, and that worried me...but 130? holy s**t

You do mean a "little less viscous" as it heats up...right? ;)

If you guys are running a 50W multigrade, it's no wonder you have high pressure. One thing to keep in mind is high pressure does not equal high flow...thick oils do not flow as well as a 30W multigrade. You are not helping the engine...might want to read the link to Dr AE Haas' Motor Oil 101 in my sig.

right right haha at least i spelled it right, and it being summer, i run mobil 1 10W-30, winter, i switch to 5W.

And with the pressures you show, that's about right ;)

You do know that Mobil 1 is a Grp III hydrocracked dino oil (not a PAO or ester based synthetic)? Might want to take a look in the oil section...personally, I run Castrol European Formula 0W-30 (aka: German Castrol) all year. It's a Grp IV PAO synthetic...superior to both the base stock and additives in Mobil 1, and at the same price or cheaper. If you're going to run a Grp III oil, Pennzoil Platinum is what I would use...better additive package vs Mobil 1 and the hydrocracking process Pennzoil uses takes the base oil to a level where there is little difference between it and a PAO synthetic.

What weight oil are you using?

10W40 now in the summer, and in the winter I am thinking to change to
10W30 like Toyota book says...
I use the full synthetic Redline high viscosity engine oil

Is the 10W40 to thick? And it raises my oil pressure a bit?

Red Line is good ;)

I would use the 5W-30...you can't have an oil that's too 'thin" (the 5W = cold viscosity) at engine start. The 30 part of the oil weight will easily meet the spec for your engine at ops temp. If you want to go to a 10W-30 in the summer, that's fine, but not really necessary.

i could be wrong here, but i thought that the number you should change by season is the first, ie. 5W or 10W, because that number represents the viscosity when cold, both 5W-30 and 10W-30 are the same viscosity at operating temp. the only difference is thickness when cold.

Back to the original discussion, at idle I get about 20psi of oil pressure, and at operating temperature, my coolant sits about 90c, peaking at 96c in extreme conditions, which is almost identical to the OP.
