lol. bastid...you should've seen how long it took for us to bolt the tranny to his 7M compared to how long it took for my 1J. I'm surprised he didn't call you over on Saturday since everyone and their mother was there.

Summary/shorter version at bottom of post.

Well I haven't updated this in a while, so heres an update after ~4 years! haha

In the 3 years following the last post I made, I drove the Supra around on the RSRs for a while, until they finally settled. And with me not having replaced the rubber parts at the top of the coil, the front end was WAY too low for houston roads and I bought a ebay coilover set (maxspeed or w.e, the red/gold ones). After that I managed to break one of my wheels, and I then replaced all 4 with MKIV TT wheels. Heres what it looked like with the ebay coilovers and MKIV wheels.

Thats JDMMA70's car behind mine. The RSR setup with the messed up top hats was about 1-1.5" lower than this setup. I drove it around for a while with this (coilover) setup.

I drove on the coilover setup as far as having my tires wear out to unusable condition from camber wear and with my alignment unable to be adjusted cause the bolts were seized. The Supra ended up sitting for maybe 2 years, and we get to about November-December 2011. That's about when I got a bushing kit and full bolt set for front and rear and tried to do the bushings, I spent about 6 hours on just one bolt! They were so seized in there that I actually gave up in frustration and took it to a shop that quoted me $600 to change all the bushings and get it aligned. I thought that was pretty cheap considering the amount of labor it'd require (I already had the parts), so I had them do it. I sent it in about December 18th and went and picked it up on Jan 1st (I went and visited my dad for Christmas break). Once I had the Supra back I started trying to get it legal, as the inspection and registration sticker were both expired. So I put some insurance on it and went to get it inspected. On the first inspection, it passed everything but failed on exhaust not being tied up properly and the power steering not working. I was kinda annoyed at the power steering failing, cause i've seen them pass people with no power steering but I guess if I have any of the components; im then required to keep it working was what he said. Anyways, immediately after the inspection I went to an exhaust shop and paid $10 to fix that. Then went home and started to look at my power steering, upon inspecting the belt was pretty loose and the reservoir was VERY dirty. So the next day I went ahead to take the power steering reservoir off I then let it soak in simple green (let it soak overnight). I then went ahead and tightened up the power steering belt. The next day i washed out the power steering reservoir with water, dried it out and put it back on. Filled the system with fluid and did a full lock to lock left-right and the power steering was better. It wasn't PERFECT but it was much better, id assume the pump was dying as the screen in the reservoir was quite clogged. So I went back to get it inspected with my new tweaks/fixes to the power steering and it passed! woo! Next step was to go to the courthouse and get a new registration sticker which was to just drive over there, I did that. And I managed to drive it around for a week and a half, and then TX2k12 rolled around! It was the first time id been able to show up with my supra in a while! So we rolled out Friday morning and hung around at the show n shine and dyno day. (sorry no pics, maybe JDMMA70 has some) Anyways when it came time to go home, my friend who had just gotten into the supra game was in his 1jz supra. His supra was acting up with what we at the time assumed to be leaking ecu caps (and it was) and it was in limp mode or something, he didn't feel confident driving it so I offered to drive it and him drive my car. So on the drive home, I was limping his car home, it wouldn't go over 2000rpms and it would not want to boost; ecu kept cutting out it felt like. The drive actually went well for a while, I managed to finally get the car (friends 1jz supra) up to freeway speeds and my friend had seemed to figure out how to work the 6 puck clutch (his is stock clutch). Then when we were about 15 min away from home, I glanced in the rear view mirror and I see smoke coming from my car. I pull over and my friend pulls up behind me , he shuts off the car and I go to pop the hood. Well the supra had overheated so badly that the coil plugs were smoking and it was so hot you couldn't touch any part for more than like a second. I was honestly surprised my car didn't go up in flames, and that would have sucked since I don't have an extinguisher. Well the Supra wouldn't start and even if it did i wouldn't want to drive it home, so i got it towed. Upon getting home and inspecting, I noticed that it lost all its coolant quickly cause of a coolant plug that was in place to block the JDM coolant port for the RHD heater core. I was hoping it would start once it was home and cooled off, but it didn't. It was cranking but it sounded like it had no compression, so JDMMA70 and I went ahead with a compression test. Here's what it got, didnt do cyl 5 since the throttle cable bracket is there.

So then I started considering my options which were to - fix the 7m, go 2JZ-GE-T, or go 1JZ-GTE. Well I ended up going 1JZ-GTE so I started hunting down an engine, ended up getting one on ebay from a importer in Dallas. My motor set cost 2900 shipped and it took 2 days to ship it to my house. And so the 1jz build begins!

Cliffs -
- Changed to ebay coilovers
- Changed to MKIV TT wheels
- Tires became unusable from camber wear while having RSR setup
- Car sat for ~2 years while trying to get bushings done (funds and school)
- Got bushings done by shop
- Car failed on inspection, then fixed/passed by redoing muffler mounts and tightening PS belt, cleaning reservoir
- Took car to TX2k12, car overheated while friend driving it, 0psi on most cylinders.
- 1jz Swap Begins!

Will be updating with 1jz pics soon! I figured this was enough for one post. =p

Alright some updates, with just pics in order. Dont feel like commenting much. =p

So this is what the motor looked like when I got it. It was actually completely wrapped in black plastic and strapped down with steel straps. It was very well secured to the pallet, but one of the straps kinda broke a lil bit off of one of the injector clips, but its no big deal it still clips on.

So after staring at the 1jz for a few minutes after helping the driver unload the engine and get it up my driveway.. I get to work taking the twins off! Dont have any twin disassembly pictures, but heres one after doing a good bit of it.

It still took me a while to take them off even with the engine out of the car and seeing as ive never done it before. Probably spent about 2-3 hours but with taking my time so I don't mess up anything.

That engine looks insanely clean and super low mileage judging by the look of the camshafts.

$2900 well spent if you ask me. Good luck with the 1jz, I gave up on the 7M before I even bought my car hahaha.

Sorry for the lack of updates, ive just been working at it. Throwing parts at it whenever I can/get them. I have some more things I need to get started on so ill get some pics similar to the current ones of that as well. =p Everything has been budgeted out and all/most parts are already here or are about to get here. Plan to drop it in on sunday!

But anyways, the turbo is a Precision SC6152. Its supposed to be similar to a GT35, atleast thats what I read on a couple forums. I really just wanted something that spools later than stock twins (so i can stay out of boost for DD) and kicks hard once spooled.

And I appreciate it Salvy.. I may have to take you up on a MKIV Supra Turbo Thermostat, I had a Gates one on the way from Rock Auto but it seems to be stuck in Ohio. Haha

Also pretty happy that I got a TRD clutch with the engine! :)

Got this done over the weekend.

^^ Normal studs for the thermostat place didn't work, i had to change to bolts to be able to take it off with the manifold on.

Will be trying to finish it up by Tuesday, depending on when I get my DM shipment.

What I got done yesterday.

Extend alternator wire to other side. Took a slight different approach than usual, lets see how well it works.

Fixed the O2 sensor Wire location for the downpipe.

Found some washers for the throttle cable and got that mounted.

I got my harness back last sunday (local friend did the harness) and had already put it on the car before dropping the 1jz in.
Oh and my Driftmotion shipment came in. Its the clutch fan, pulley, and oxygen sensor (not pictured).

Next - Intercooler setup, put radiator back in, put ECU in, fill with fluids, prime, start, ???
