Have any of you put a stereo in place of the ashtray and lighter?

My stock stereo location is now the place where all of my gauges are custom mounted so I can't put a deck there. The only other location I was thinking was the ashtray and lighter. I want to remove that panel and cut out the ashtray and lighter.

If anyone has done this any tips or pictures would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

well, i would have only one problem with that and its the space you have around the deck itself, i have noticed that when i go on long trips they tend to get hot and there is a lot of room where ur new gauges are, just giving you something else to think about, but as far as moving the cigarett lighter and the ashtray all i wanna say is try no to cut the rubber on the outside if you don't take it off in the first place, and unless you have a really thin blade and saw it won't be easy, i mounted my boost gauge where my ciggy lighter was and i used a small hack saw, a drill, and a file to get it to fit right, also i wouldn't cut the metal thats behind the pannel, take a good look at it and see how you can use it to secure the deck cuz i doubt the deck will fit in it without modification.

Thanks for the info and opinions guys. I've looked at it and I'm gonna give it a shot. I think if I can get it to fit in that location properly it will look really good. I'm looking at a Pioneer deck that plays CD's MP3's has an iPod hookup and Bluetooth hands free calling. After I'm done I'll post pics.....even if the project is a failure I'll post some pics. Now on to researching which speakers will fit and what to buy.

Thanks

Would be less work to move the gauges to that spot and put the stereo where it's supposed to go...

Your car though...
