Hey guys. I recently picked up an 89 Supra turbo and the Progressive Power steering rack is leaking, badly. I was wondering instead of spending money to get a remanufactured rack with PPS, is there a way that i can directly bolt on a non PPS rack as it is easier access to me, without having any fitment problems and possibly throwing a CEL because of the missing solenoid? Its leaking badly and i really want to get a replacement but the fast replacement i have as an option is non PPS, can anyone shine some light on this, anything is appreciated, thanks!

i belive that the intermediate shaft remains the same, the only difference is in the rack itself, PPS had the little solenoid by pinion by the shaft and the non-PPS was just a rack without the solenoid

I know, I was thinking having the extra solenoid meant the rack would be a little taller and the intermediate shaft might be shorter as a result.

Steering stabilizer is a shock. Intermediate shaft just is able to move in and out to install it.

^look under car where intermediate shaft and rack meet, if theres a solenoid (or what that thing is) with two wires that lead up somewhere by the fusebox area, its PPS, if its just a regular non wired rack, its non PPS. Yeah thats kinda what i meant lol just couldn't explain it right, but to get back on topic. Does anyone know that if i use a non PPS rack on my car, would that cause the CEL to go on and if so is there a way that i can bypass? Its much more common around my area to find a non leaking non-PPS rack.

If memory serves me right you could. Its all mechanical anyways except the pps part. As far as the cel part idk. Could always look for a part out. Or just get yours rebuilt.

take it out and get it rebuilt. It'll be cheaper then getting one off the shelf and non-pps... i've been quoted 200/250 before. I got a new non-pps rack for my 88 for 130 bux... i worked at a shop so thats y it was so cheap.
