Steering Creaks on Left Turns

A while back I had a creaking noise on few occasions when making a left turns. Not too long ago I had my car on the lift at a shop and I could not find what was wrong with it. I was looking for a loose nut or bolt and after looking over the front suspension over and over again, didn't see anything that was odd. I greased the turning stops seeing how that might be the source of the noise.

I did have new shocks installed some time last year and if I remember correctly, there was no odd sound prior to the shocks replacements.

Today, while driving, the noise came back and it's during a left turn. The sound seemed to be more prolonged than it was previously. I got into a parking lot and made a left turn to see if I can get it to make the noise. I had to force it out a little, but it did occur again.

Any idea what it might be? Rack and Pinion? Ball joints? Alignment?

I think I know what it is. Someone else may explain it better.

On each front wheel there is a turn stop bolt. On that bolt there should be a plastic cover. Without those you will here a creaking noise. There are pretty cheap and I keep a couple on hand for when they ware out.

If anything it is something to check.

I did not know that there are suppose to be plastic covers for the turn stop bolts. I just greased these things up.

Where can I get these plastic covers? Dealer only item?

Thanks.

Yes dealer. I am not sure on the price, it has been awhile since I bought them. But I would think a couple of dollars or less, but I could be wrong.

I'll try my local dealer for the caps to fix the noise.

Thanks for the info.

Hey, let me know how much these cost and if they solve the problem. I just replaced my tierods (inner and outer) and my car does the same thing you describe but for left and right.

Old thread, but turns out the creaking noise were from the front exhaust pipe rubbing against the front sub-frame of the car when there should be around a quarter inch gap. I had the car on the lift and with some help from other people, used a prybar to wedge the exhaust pipe and pry it from the sub-frame to make the gap. Problem solved.
