i have a 91 supra, and when i start it after it cools down it gets hard to crank sometimes.
i need to crank the key for about 3-4 seconds and the rpm gauge rises to idle, but when i start it in between short times, it starts fine,

it has a optima battery which i tested and its good. 1000CA out of 800CA
alternators fine (getting charged)
starter, the mechanic said was fine( he only heard the starter and it was when it started fine)

could it be the starter or the fuel pump causing it to start like this?
Thanks.

Care to rewrite your problem? Something like this.

On hot restarts, the car will not crank over. If I hold the key for 3-4 seconds nothing happens, then it cranks over all of a sudden.

On hot retarts, the car cranks over, but will not fire up. It takes 3-4 seconds of cranking to start.

After it cools, it cranks over and starts.

I think you car doesn't crank over with the key in the start position when hot. If you shut if off, it will retart, but if you let it sit for a moment, that is when it doesn't start.

Sound right?

1. Optima sucks.

2. The starter could be suffering from heat soak.

3. The cables could be corroded internally, and heat increases the resistance even more.

4. If I saw the car, I could tell you much easier. So try and reword what is wrong.

if it is hard to start when cold it is most likely the cold start injector located in the bottom of intake manifold. i had issues starting cold but during replacing 7mgte with jdm i noticed this injector was plugged up. after swap and cleaning the injector problem was gone. heat soak is only issue when restarting hot engine.

like if i leave the car in the garage overnight, the next morning it starts fine, its about 18-19c, but when it warms up and i leave it sitting for about 5-6 hours after i try to start it it hesitates and the rpms just rise slowly.
