How the hell do u take off the top mounting bolt on the starter. I'm replacing my clutch and i have no idea how to get it off. I dont really want to take everything off the top of the engine... Is there an easier way.

It can be reached from underneath.

What year? Most models have a bolt and nut, my 91 has threaded holes with just a bolt. 92's probably are also threaded.

I go from the top, if you have enough extensions you can reach it by putting the ratchet at the front of the manifold and going back.

By the way, your gonna love getting at the top bolts if you cant get the starter bolt.

the two bolt are at the top of the engine where it meets the transmission.
You may want to loosen the engine mounts and the transmission mount and tilt the engine so that the trans is lowered, it should give you better access to the top bolts.

As far as the starter, you may want to remove the Alt then you can get a streight shoot at the bolt from the front, you will still need to hold the nut.

You may find it is easier to just remove the engine and trans as one unit and then seperate them. I understand it is a royal bitch to mount the trans from under the car.

Good luck

All trans have them, the one on the exhaust side is easier to get to, the intake side one you may have to remove the egr (youll need to buy 2 gaskets or copper FIPG) and the heater hose.

Dropping the tail shaft of the tranny, and long extensions are the answer. And as I saw in a similar thread, be careful that your motor does not rock forward when the tranny comes off. The fan may get into the radiator.
