Starter delay?

I'm trying to tackle another electrical gremlin on my 89 7mgte. Whenever I turn the key to start the car, there is about a 1 second delay before the starter kicks in. With the previous starter, I was having an issue of the starter not kicking in at all (but it would always work fine if I ran a direct line from the battery to the trigger switch on the starter). Now I have this weird delay with the replacement starter... its very consitent and it starts on the 1st attempt 99% of the time. All I can think of is a loose connection/faulty engine harness or a ground wire issue (I think I'm missing the small one that goes from the chassis to tranny brace, but the other 3 are good) I just don't see why it would have a delay, seems like it would just work fine or not work at all if it was a connection issue. I did a auto->5spd conversion and I'm using the auto harness and ecu. Any input would be appreciated!

No pics of that... Its just the stock one and not damaged to my knowledge. I think it has something to do with the power going to the starter solenoid to activate it, just not sure what or why. Could a partially broken wire do this??? Thanks.

I had this problem recently on my 91. Funny thing my starter bolts are on the backside of the bellhousing a MF to replace the starter. So I started looking at some other issues. I replaced my battery terminals and cable. Mine stopped that pause. (my alarm is gone after meeting a 20 pound sledge at high velocity)
My terminals were the stock crap and the bolt that connected had a look that it had been having issues.

Good luck.
