Ok guys what's the freakin secret. I only see one bolt going to the trans (r154). I'm mid trans removal for my new spec clutch and this blows. All I have left is the starter and bellhousing. Any Hints??

Two bolts its easy with ring spanners on right hand drive

Take out the bottom bolt last... do the hard top bolt first

Right drive FTW

PS watch out for the knock sensor

Buy some ratcheting ring spanners

fork should just pop free.

for the starter. i had to have a friend help. one of us was working from the top while one of us was laying under the car trying to get wrenches on either side. was a pain in the butt but it all works out in the long run.

Fork is a pain to get out. You basically just have to pull out a locking washer, but it's tough to remove if it hasn't been touched in a while.

the starter is two extensions and a swivel for the top bolt, a bitch but can be done. the fork, needle nose and a common screwdriver. I had both inspection covers off and popped the clip on the pass side then pulled the bolt and fork from the driver side. its easy after the first time.

Even though you already have it out, I got an eazy way for the starter bolt for the other guys. Go to walmart and get the Stanley 3/8'' drive wratchet that has the handle that you twist. Use a shallow well socket and break it loose with the little amount of space you do have. Then just twist the handle till it comes out.

BTW, that wratchet is one of the best tools I have. I have had it for about a year and it still works as good as the day I bought it. It's great for those tight places.

As for the clutch fork, make sure the bellhousing is as close to the block as possible. I made that mistake and didn't take it out until the bellhousing and tranny were separated from the block by an inch. You should be able to take both inspection covers off the tranny and use a long extension and tap it out from the other side.

my first time pulling the engine I didn't know there was a clutch fork. since all my experience up to that point with yanking motors was autos. so long story short I fucked the original pressure plate up by prying the shit between block and bellhousing. it was afterwards that I yanked the fork and pop theres the engine out...

I think I messed up the little retainer. Ill figure something else out. I had a real blast getting the tranny out of the tunnel. These guys with an integra were almost laughing at me yanking and shaking and jacking up the motor then back down. I was pretty pissed after the first hour. Had a coke and a smoke and said fuckit. Got a prybar and viola! You should've seen them jump when they realized how big that damn thing was as it slammed down onto the jack! I'm swapping the pressure plate anyways LOL.
So after all of that I get to thinking how the hell am I going to get this thing back in?!! After quite a bit of searching I found a thread that said to disconect the ''3rd motor mount''. Probably why the motor wouldn't go very far. I hope that does the trick. Also, should I put the presure plate and disk on the tranny then bolt it up to the flywheel once its up there?
Anyone got some pointers on getting this thing back in? I have 2 1/2 weeks to brake in a spec stage 3 before the next race event, and I still have to tune.

The supra only has 2 engine mounts and a tranny mount. Best way is to loosen up the engine mount bolts and jack the front of the engine up. It will give you a lot more clearance. I put mine back up by myself. I would suggest having someone help you. It is a PITA!!! I was sore for like a week after that. Not to mention I did this on the ground while the car was on jackstands. So, I only had about a foot and a half of clearance.

I have one of those.. got it from advance auto or some.. its the worst tool that I ever bought.. it needs soooo much torque to turn a bolt thats tight... just my experience..

I think the thread I read was refering to a damper, I dunno. I guess I'm fortunate to have a lift and a tranny jack, hope all goes well. Anyone know about the pp and disk going in the tranny then bolting it all up to the motor and flywheel, it seems like it would take care of the clearance issues.

slide the PP and the disc onto the input shaft. then once you got the tranny secure to the engine just push it up to the flywheel and begin bolting it up. same torquing sequence like the head, make a few pases then torque to spec.

I couldn't get the clutch fork pin into the fork while the fork was already in position. Somehow I put the pin and e-clip into the fork and installed it fine. How can I install the fork with the pin in but I can't take it out without taking the pin out first, it's crazy!

Update. Tranny is in, and all went well. Had to do it twice because I thought I dropped the top starter bolt behind the flywheel! After the trans was back out there it was on the other A arm!
I got a new question though. All is working fine but when the clutch engages there is a lot of vibration. After its engaged its fine and in neutral there's no problem either. Its a spec stage 3, is this normal? Will it go away after breakin? Gotta know cause it feels pretty freakin violent (shook off my front neon). Thanx guys, and word of advise to anyone pulling the tranny, unbolt the pressure plate before you unbolt the trans.

Judging by this thread, I think some people need to just turn in their wrenches and let someone else do it.
