my 1J will not idle worth a damn!! anytime i come up to a light it tries to stall. it idles at like 400 rpm and then it starts to die. its as if i have a vented BOV on my 7M or something. it stalled out 7 times this morning during a 20 min drive to work. i dunno whats causing this.

when i first start it and its cold it idles around 900 and doesn't stall but once it begins to warm up it dies. i have to feather the throttle at the light to keep it running.

what could cause this?

it stalls sometimes, not every time (at least when I've been in the car).. We've set the tps to 2jz specs and still doesn't work. We've pulled a vac line on the intake (should idle up) and it still idles at like 400-500 rpm. For some reason the ecu keeps pulling the isc duty...

My car idled like this once too. What I did was adjust the idle screw inward a bit, then re-position the TPS back to spec, then pulled the EFI fuse for 30 minutes, came back, and cranked her.

If it cold idles at 900, then you MIGHT have a blockage somewhere in the ISCV's path, but I'm not sure. My car cold idles at 1500, but that's REALLY cold :)

Edit: It took me a year to get my 1JZ to properly idle..... ugh. There's a thread about it on SF somewhere.

yea i dont know what it is. im willing to bet the IAC valve is not bad something else is wrong

i have no A/C so that doesn't help and i prefer it to idle at 900-1000 i hate low idling cars

I set my idle to 1500. With a 3in turbo back exhaust and a blown out apexi muffler, it sounds good :)

Get a longer screw for the throttle body adjustment at any hardware store and pick up a piece of aluminum stock while your at it

well to my knowledge there isn't an idle adjustment screw. just the screw to adjust the throttle plate

interesting

the only thing i've heard of is adjusting the throttle plate it self.

like the butterfly to be open move as if yur slightly giving it gas. i dont believe there IS an actual idle screw.

yeah, thats what an idle adjustment screw does. The factory one isn't long enough to set idle on its own, so just buy a longer bolt at the hardware store and done.

The factory screw is just for fine tuning with the idle motor. My 93 had a problem of idling too low with the AC on.. a quick twist, fixed.
