So i want a turbo car, FWD or RWD, but i want low milage good running car. My ex-girlfriends dad had an srt-4 and he daily drove it to elk grove and never had a problem... Im not looking to modify it or anything, maybe an exhaust and intake? simple shit.

Your thoughts?

Any other cars i should look at?
My price range is like 8,000-12,000

I don't understand this one thing about the SRT-4... how do they have so little horsepower?

Honda.. with their new Civic SI's.. get 200hp factory, with a 2.0L.. NA

SRT-4.. has 2.4L, so it is considerably bigger than a Honda engine, AND it is turbocharged! Only gets.. 40 more hp...

All I know is that I am not sold on a SRT-4.

As far as them being a daily driver... they can be. But mind you, it is still a peon, and still runs the risk of breaking down.

I am sure that with 8 to 12 grand, you could find something a lot nicer.

Low mileage turbo car for 8 to 12 grand?

Hmmm not much selection. I'd suggest a BMW 3 series but they're not turbo'd obviously.

EDIT: And I give the thumbs up for SRT-4's. I like em... as a daily driver.

the srt-4 is a great car. Tons of underrated power from the factory and plenty of upgrades, even from the factory! Still a car I would consider purchasing sometime in the future!

At the end of the day, it still is a neon but a very cool one.

And over 100 more ft/lbs of torque. It doesnt spin to 8k which is how the honda makes all that horsepower with 139 ft/lbs of torque.

I forgot about that torque curve factor...

I have seen a few really mean SRT-4's being dynoed, with a lot more horsepower than what they are said to have stock, in stock trim. But only a few of them were true factory freaks... there were some that didn't dyno out to what they were said to have as well. So I can't sit and say that every SRT-4 has only what they are said to have... some have more than what they are supposed to have... while others... don't have all they were said to have.

I have one friend with a stock SRT-4... and he ran a 13.0 flat on the quarter... and that is damn good for a stock car, that cost him less than 12k.

The thing I dislike most about the SRT-4 though, is the feel of the car, it just feels cheap. I don't get that feeling inside of an Acura. You can buy an RSX with staying inside of this price range... and IMO.. it's a little bit more of a car, and has 2 less doors.

It is all a matter of personal opinion though. You are right about the hp to torque difference.. and that might just be the reason why Hondas don't breakdown as often... not enough torque to make them break!

The 7M-GTE only makes 10hp more than the 2JZ-GE. But stock doesn't matter. Uncork both motors with 1k in mods and you know what happens then.

SRTs will respond really well to the same basic mods any other turbo car uses. I'm still not very fond of them.

I'd rather buy a WRX like Ric mentioned. But in reality, I'd rather not buy a turbo car for a daily driver, period.

To the OP, isn't your car NA? Sounds strange that you would want to buy a turbo car for your daily driver while leaving your Supra NA. I think it would be better to put a GTE in the Supra then spend the rest on an NA daily driver.

I agree with the rest turbo your mark 3 you swap in a 1jz those are mighty reliable for a daily.

Best of both worlds........spend $6K or so and get that 1JZ installed. Then spen $4-6K on a used Honda/Acura that will never break. You get what you really want in both hands.

^^ +1

A honda beater dd would be comfortable, get excellent mileage, and would blend in with all the other traffic when speeding on the highway, lol

Then get a 1JZ swapped with a nice flowing exhaust, and be done for a while. Gas mileage isn't bad compared to any 6 cylinder, and they are very reliable...and VERY fun...esp. compared to the 7mge!!
