ok, first off, here are his mods that i know about:
JDM silvia SR20 DET swap, solid motor mounts, full 2 3/4" exhaust from the turbo back, FMIC (side to side, and DAMN nice) custom mandrel bent intercooler hardpipes, greddy type S BOV, walbro 255, mandrel bent intake hardpipe, with cone filter. stage 3 clutch, and he MIGHT have a lightweight flywheel, but i'm not sure. his interior from the front seats back is gutted. (this thing is mad light, and smoked an '04 corvette up until the sentra hit speed cut) battery relocated in the trunk. he's lowered, too. he's running 6-7 psi.
here's my mods:
86.5 turboswapped chassis, SOGI short shift rethreaded for stock knob, '89 7MGTE, Clutchmasters Stage III, Fidanza Lighweight Flywheel, Lexus AFM, RC 550cc Injectors, Boost Reference Aeromotive Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator with Fuel Pressure gauge and stainless steel braided lines, pulsation damper removal kit and j-tube bypass, Walbro 255 Fuel Pump, Megan Racing Boost Gauge, Becauseican Divorced Wastegate Downpipe, 3" RS*R Concept Cat-back with resonator removed, Cometic 1.4mm MHG, ARP Headstuds, 1mm Oversized Valves, Dr. Jonez Manual Boost Controller, Eibach Pro Kit, Koni Yellows, Upper Hardpipe/BOV, B&M 11x8 oil cooler, B&M 180* thermostat, oilfilter relocation kit, Greddy oil catch can.
i'm still on the stock intake system (i swiss cheesed my airbox), stock intercooler and stock lower IC piping. i dont have my boost controller hooked up because i was having problems with the car, and removed it to help eliminate all other variables. (it wasnt the MBC by the way) my boost will hit 8psi, then slowly spike to around 15 in the upper gears. i also have traction issues, due to the fact that i need an allignment. i also still have the stock catalytic converter from my N/A (hollowed out, but still bottlenecks like crazy after the BIC ddp)
on to the race:
so, i meet up with him, and we go to an open, 3 mile stretch of road, and make a pass to check for anyone. there was nobody on the road. (woo!) i honestly thought he was going to pull me. his car sounds amazing. the exhaust note is beautiful. you can really hear the turbing chopping up the exhaust note. like a "blub blub blub blub blub blub" type deal. very menacing. he wanted to race from a roll, as did i.
we slow down, with me behind him. doing about 20mph, and 4 carlengths behind him, both of us in second gear. we decided the "go" signal would be to flip on the hazzards, and then turn them off.
i see his hazzards flip, and i plant my right foot into the floorboard of the car. he jumps instantly (small turbo spools faster than ours) he gets a half a car length ahead. i only hit 6psi in second. i could hear his car screaming to its 7500rpm redline, and a puff of black smoke blew past me as he shifted.
i nail third gear like i would punch a mugger in the face. it was a nearly perfect shift. i didnt even hear my BOV sound. i accelerated toward him like bullet. i let off the accelerator so i didnt smash into his rear bumper, then floored it again. my engine RPM shot to redline within an instant. i hit fourth with another superfast shift. and had to let off FOUR MORE times.
needless to say, i was capable of passing him, but the deal was that we wouldnt break 100mph. neither of us really street race, but this race was the talk of all the car kids in my town, so it needed to be done.
SECOND RACE:
this time, he followed me. he stayed 1/2 car length behind me, so that he could hear me floor it over his car. both starting in second gear, i flipped my hazzards on. as soon as i flipped them off, i heard his car begin to catapult toward my rear bumper. (too close for comfort, as he was already wicked close to me!) my right hand was quivering in anticipation of the 2nd- 3rd gear shift. i hit 6k rpm at 7-8psi, kicked the clutch pedal in the face as hard as i could, and used all my might to slam the cut stock shifter into third gear.
again, no BOV sound (and no, it's not seized) nearly perfect shift! woo! as soon as i hit third gear, i began to re-open the gap that his small t28 turbo was trying desperatly to close at the beginning of the race. (at this point, 2lengths behind me) in third, i was hitting about 10psi, and it crept to 15, luckily.
i redlined third gear, kicked it into fourth, and kept pulling, and pulling, and pulling. i hit 100mph, and he was WAY behind me. i shut it down there, and let it coast back to 60mph. by 100mph, i was about 7-8 car lengths ahead of him.
we pulled into a sidestreet, and talked a bit. he was really surprised that my car pulled him as hard as it did. infact, that was the first race he'd ever lost since he did the sr20 DET swap. all in all, i'm very proud of my rusty supra. it layed the smack down on a very nice looking/performing nissan sentra ser spec V, with the aforementioned swap.
cliffs: i smoked a SR20 DET swapped nissan sentra SE-R, from a second gear roll to 100mph.
hope you enjoyed!
