what spring rates do you guys suggest out of an aftermarket suspension? I'm going to be buying some springs/sleeves, and they ask you to specify.

Depends on what shocks you are going to use. You can go very stiff on the springs but if your shocks are not damped enough, you'll be bouncing around. Best bet is to just buy the generic ST, H&R, Eibach,.....etc... and match it with shocks from Tokico, KYB, Bilstein, etc.... Best way to do it is buy a coilover set, Tein, Kei Office, etc..... but those are big money. Do some searching, this has been covered a BILLION times though.

Well, I wanted the springs/sleeves because they are height adjustable, and I dont know about you, but I could see myself using that feature alot. I was also thinking about the koni yellows, I dont remember what the company was, but when I do, i'll post it up. All I remember is that they built an ae86 for drag racing. Not the ideal car for the sport in my mind.

the spring and sleeve kits are 179/pair of springs w/the sleeves and I havent looked up the shocks, but alltogether they'll probably end up being cheaper.

well, I looked at the prices of the yellows on hpf, and while they're on sale, there close to $100 apice, so alltogether, w/out pillowball top mounts It'd even out to around $800, with the pillowballs, itd be around 1300, at which point, I'd get coilovers, now could someone explain why I absolutly have to get aftermarket shocks? someone said w/ stock shocks, the ride would get bouncy, but I rode in my friends car w/ springs/sleeves on stock shocks, and it wasnt bad at all, maybe they had softer spring rates? If thats the case, I'll just get softer rates, and stick w/ the stock struts for now, because my boss cut down my hours for the school year, and I only get like $100/paycheck. opinions and suggestions greatly appreciated as always.

Depending on the springs, your car will be lowered, which will take the shocks out of their recommended stroke range. This will cause them to blow prematurely, which in turn causes a bumpy ride. Also if the rates are very high, they can put more pressure on the shocks, causing them to go sooner.

i saw jeff gore's chart of aftermarket coil overs and their associated spring rates... but what about street-springs intended for use w/ factory style shocks... such as Eibach Pro-kit, BG sport springs, H&R sport/race springs, Suspension techniques, etc.

oh and does anyone know what the STOCK sprnig rates are for the MA70 turbo and jza70 Turbo R with Bilstein suspension?

im trying to figure out what spring rates i want because ill be having my friend custom-valve my stock shocks to the weight, spring rate and intended use of my car.

thanks
