Many threads have covered this.... try jacking your car up and rotating one rear wheel, if both turn in the same direction, it's an LSD, you can also do a burnout I guess, or look at the number in the engine compartment under the vin, there is a speial number, search for it in the forums (it has to be 3 or 5 and I guess its like 4th or 5th number counting from the back, theres a picture on SM:)

I know my N/A has no LSD, did any of them have it though? Also - would i gain much in terms of acceleration/top speed by swapping to an LSD?

Oh and if anyone has one for sale - i'll take it :D

definitely get more traction and a better burnout. as for the top speed, youll be running a higher rpm due to the gear ratio. i think most of us with LSDs are around 3500-3600 at 80 mph.

the lsd does put more power to the ground though, if one wheel starts slipping

Ya, are you sure you don't have one? Just because you dont have the sport package doesnt mean you dont have an lsd. I have the headlight washers and an lsd, but no tems or targa top, so no sport package. I love my LSD :biglaugh:

Huh?

Don't have what? LSD? 4 of my 5 Supras have had LSD, including 3 GE's, and none had the "sport package".

Thats because your NA, not because you have a LSD. All NAs came with a 4.3 Diff, its the gearing in the diff that determines where you are at when it comes to rpm vs speed.

you say all NAs came with lsds?
lol, no all na's came with a 4.3 diff, whether the diff was lsd or not. Whether the car is lsd equipped or not doesnt depend on the gear ratio in the diff. There were 5 different diffs available (OEM), 4 were lsd, the 4.3 open diff and 4.3 lsd for the NAs, 3.73 89-92 turbos, 3.91 87-88 turbos, and the 4.10 in the JZ equipped cars. Earlier you said

I was just trying to point out that you have a 4.3 Diff and that any NA that swaps to a diff like yours would still be at the same rpm level as you lsd or not. The turbo lsd's have a lower numerical gear ratio which means if he were to swap to one of those he would be at a lower rpm than you at 80mph. Gearing wise, a lower ratio would allow you to reach a higher top speed (and get you better gas mileage on the highway), but your acceleration would suffer.

I know when I leave marks......, I leave two strips. If you don't have lsd the you leave 1 black stripe and you can see where the other tire has cleaned the pavement.

gotcha, thanks for clarifying. +1.

I've got an open end diff but i only can tell when i turn really sharp and gas it, then only the inside wheel spins, but anyother time, i get real sideways:icon_bigg
