Spitting...Sputtering...Backfiring?

I started this in another thread; but, needed more feedback so I started this one.

Ok. I just replaced my rod bearings. This was done while the engine was in the car. The car had been sitting for 2-1/2 years. I verified that I'm getting fuel by cracking the FPR fitting while jumping at the diagnostic panel.

Now the car just backfires. I didn't do anything to any part of timing. ie... distributor, cams, timing belt... When it spits and back fires, my boost gauge hits between 15 and 20 psi.

Any guesses?

I'm thinking that too; but, man I didn't mess with timing at all!

The only thing I can think of is that while rotating the engine over by hand, the timing belt may have jumped a tooth. Or many... Have you heard of that happening?
