so my speedometer is not reading accurate by any means. i have figured out that im going 35mph when it reads 60 and im doing 60 when it reads 85 so on and so fourth. my question is this a problem with the cable or the gauge. i had bought the smaller end of the cable that attaches to the tranny. but then recently found out that they order the wrong one. aparently autos and manuals are different. mine is an auto and they gave me the 14" not the 10". but it still reads exactly the same as it did with the stock one on. thus leading me to believe that its either the longer section of the cable or the guage. if anyone can help i would greatly appriciate it

do you have a digital dash or a analogue dash? Assuming you have a Analogue dash cluster....

If the worm gear is spinning (you wouldn't get a signal if it wasn't) and the cable is spinning then id be looking at the cluster, i had a car once that some stupid apprentice mechanic screwed up the speedometer, it wasn't cable driven. the speedometer read 20km/h out at all times. ie at 40 read 20, at 60 read 40, at 80 read 60 etc.

I took the speedometer to my local speedometer shop and they repaired it.

Given the actual receiver that converts the rotations into electronically pulses is in the dash cluster my monies on the cluster, From memory the Analogue dash is built into the cluster and the digital dashes receiver is removable.

its the stock speedometer. i would assume analog i suppose. also im not sure if its ever been messed with previously but perhaps. so maybe thats something to look into yes. i did notice today now that i paid attention to it that it takes a sec or two to wind down to zero after stopping. wondering if cable is loose to dash connection or something. like i said short of replacing it all which is spendier then id like at this point i dont know what my next step should be

as ive said id like to pin point the problem before i throw more money at it. allready bought one part i was told was the problem for sure and spent 30 bucks on something that did not solve my problem. would like to stray from this sort of thing in the future if at all possible. catch my drift

i had the same problem at one point, i replace the cable that went from the short part off the tranny to the guage cluster... what you can also do is spray lubicant like wd-40 or something similar in the end that connects to the short part of the tranny and just hook up a power drill to the same end and spin it to help lub the cable that should help improve it
