It is time for me to replace my worn out speedometer cable. It frequently bounces around at low speeds and makes a lot of noise. I have the jdm 4.10 rear end in the car instead of the factory 3.73 (i believe). Since I need to replace the cable, I would like to also make my speedometer more accurate. Does anyone have any good solutions? Someone that might carry a 4.10 cable? I like to purchase something new, or in like new shape.

Thanks,
Mike

not too familiar with the way the supras use for the speedometer but most cars have a gear internal of the trans that is tied in with the output shaft of the trans to run the cable(mustangs are notorious for gearswaps that require the new plastic/nylon gear). Some cars have a calibration screw behind the speedometer itself for minor changes in gears/tires. Not sure if it would apply to these cars but just some food for thought. Good luck.

LOL

The cable is just a cable, and plays no part in the equation.
Same with the speedo.

If you want the speedo to run right for a 4.10, you need JDM speedo gears to swap into your R154

That's right, it has nothing to do with the cable. It's the little nylon gear inside the tail shaft. They have a tendency to wear out, but if you reach in the little hole where cable goes in and pull out the gear from your old trans and put it in your jdm...problem solved.

Worst case scenario it's worn out and you match a new one to the old one (count the teeth on the old gear).

Thanks for the replys. I guess I will try and hunt down a 4.10 speedo gear, and just pick up a factory cable.

Thanks,

Mike

You cannot put a 4.10 speedo gear into an 89+ Supra, because the drive gear on the output shaft has 11 teeth as opposed to the 4.10-equipped cars that had a 10 tooth drive gear. The pre-89's with the 3.91 did have a 10 tooth drive gear, so you can throw the JZA70 driven gear into the R154 on those.

You will need to open up the tranny if you want to change it to read correctly the factory way.

Drive Gear: 33481-14080 (Same as pre-89 R154)
Driven Gear: 33403-29135

Thanks for that info.

I think I may just live a little while with the speedo being off. It seems a little more involved that I originally hoped.
