I know the speedo isn't pinpoint accurate, but I'd like to have it working again. I'm using 17s with 235/45, but it's about time to get some new tires if anyone has a better size suggestion. I'll be putting in the new gear tomorrow, so I'll pace a friend to see how off it's going to be.

you can put some higher profile tire's on the back to help offset it a bit.i have a 3.90 gear tran's with a 4.10 rear and with 275/40 tire's out back it wasn't far off

If you have the 4.10 from the JZA70, you should be able to get the correct driven gear for it if that 4.10 was from a 5 speed (R154) car

W58 and R154 gears are indeed different diameters... I'm sitting here a bit bummed because I just received a 32 tooth gear that I special ordered which was supposed to be for the W58, but it's the same as the R154 gear I already had (which, as you've already seen, is much smaller than the W58's). :( Can't return it either... "special order". I'm down $25.

how difficult is it to install this gear? I've recently replaced my speedo cable and the speedo still does not give a reading. i'm convinced its the gear, it cant be anything else. on the side of the tranny the cable screws into a "neck" that goes onto the side of the tranny. my "neck" can be moved up and down, like its loose or something, should this part move at all?

There is one bolt holding it in. I believe it's 10mm, and it holds a small metal tab that fits a notch on the driven gear. Then you just pull the sucker straight out (good time to change your oil). It's a gigantic pain in the ass with the trans/exhaust installed.
