The thing is that I had the manual R154 swapped into my car(it use to be an auto). So would I need to buy the speedo cable for a 5 speed??? Or an auto??? Im confused!!!!

Anyone know how much they run for?

OK I just rotated the long cable center cable with my hand and the speedo does move. So its probably just the short speedo cable, the one that hooks up to the transmission. Its leaking oil anyways so I might as well replace it. I just want to make sure that thats what I need. Thanks

anyone know how much the short speedo cable that hooks up to the trans costs? Thanks

my car also had a r154 swap but my cable was cut right near the transmission, so i just bought both peices....just go to the parts section and find someone parting out a 5 speed(im not sure if turbo or non turbo matters, maybe someone else knows?)

Okay I just played around with the connector and the speedo seems to be working fine. The thing is that the short cable that is hooked up to the transmission is leaking what appears to be tranny gear oil from the center or the cable. So should I buy the short speedo cable to fix my oil leak??? Or is can the seal or something be replaced???

Anyone know what the short cable costs at the dealer??? Thanks guys

more speedo cable questions....

by the sounds of it, the upper cable should rotate fairly freely when you try to twist the drive section from the bottom end?

mine takes a bit of effort to do (can't do it with fingers, but can with pliers)

i guess it's seized up.... anyone elses done this, and if so, did you need to replace the lower portion as well? (stripped gears / snapped drive on the short section?)

Thanks for your help guys, trying to get as much info as possible before I start ordering parts...

I just ordered the top piece from Jeff Watson at Champion and it cost me like 72 bucks. So they are pretty pricey but then again so is a speeding ticket!!:nono:
Good Luck

^^ You think that is bad, try the little elbow on the auto tranmissions. Never would have thought that little peice would be so much.

Well i got it fixe a few weeks ago, and i ended up replacing the short piece the one that hooks to the trans, overall it was pretty easy. I paid $36 dlls at the dealer for the short speedo cable that hooks to the trans.
