ok well my speedo stopped working so i took it off the tranny and the cable snapped. So now I want to phone toyota tommrow but Is there different speedo cables for different years??

my supra is a 1990 but it has a jdm engine(wich I belive is from a 1988-87 due to it had a 6m crank). As for the tranny no clue at all if its the one from the factory or swapped in from another year.

what part do i ask for? is it just the cable i need but do they send the whole assembly?

and one last major important question...how hard is it too replace it?? just snapped like a few inchs from the tranns.

thnx alot guys hopefully some one can answer my questions by tommrow so i can order it and have it in asap.

if you got a r-154 the speedo cable should be the same throughout all the years there are 2 cables the long one from the cluster all the way down by the bellhousing which is the same for auto and 5 speed, then from there to the transmission, but if you got a automatic, the lower cable should be longer to accommodate the auto tranny being longer

so i just need the really short one right? it broke liek not even 5 inches from where it plugs into the tranny

sounds like it. If you have any wobbling of the needle at all though, I would suggest changing both. IIRC, the speed signal is sent to the ecu and low speed driveability can be negatively affected by a sticky speedo cable.

I'll try to fit the autom. cable to my manual. The shorter part is made a bit better (metal bending part). Though even the manual tranny speedo cable seems a bit too long....

get naked & boost a supra
i don't think this was mentioned above. stock 5-speed has 2 piece cable and auto has 3 piece cable with the shortest piece screwing to the tranny.
when i did the auto to manual swap, i left the cable alone and the shortest piece has broken once in 4 years of the swap.
