R-154 driven gears don't work in a W-58... at all... at least not in mine... I've tried.

The only thing other than a complete tranny swap or a swapped diff which would cause this is a shift in the speedo itself. If this is the case your odo should still read correctly, just the speed will be off. There is an adjustment for this on the internals of the speedo, Jeff Lange posted the info a long time ago.

Do they? Never knew that (obviously)... happen to know what counts? Are they for different vehicles? or did they change the internal gearing which drives it at some point?

I'm also lookin for a new speedo cable, but after reading your last post your saying different w58's have different gears, so you would have to take the cable off completely and count the teeth on the gear before getting a new cable?

ALL of the W gears are interchangable ie: W55/57/58 and so on, there's a list of colours/teeth count somewhere I'll ask a bud if he has the link.

Cable comes without a gear so you'd be connecting it to your old one anyway.

I had thought that might be the case a while back when I was running a 3.91 LSD... sent a PM to Marlincrawler, but never heard back and just didn't follow it up from there.... if one's available that'll be great.

The housing's the same but the gears are of a different diameter. The R-154's driven gear is of a smaller diameter, so while a w58's driven gear may work when placed into a R154, the R154's gear just spins freely in the W58.

Check to see if the housing is offset or if there are different ones with the centre spindle on an eccentric, this is how adjustment for different ratios is usually handled but it's been 10 years since I had a W58 here and I can't remember.

I compared the housings, axles and gears of the W58 and the R154 parts which I have, but checking to see if either had the spindle eccentrically placed didn't occur to me. I don't have one to look at now, hopefully someone else can check and let us know.

While we're at it, does anyone have a tooth count for the w58's driven gear?

For some odd reason my Speedometer is 10 miles faster than the car is actually going and in the 80+ MPH it goes off by 30 MPH.
I need help, does anyone have any idea why this would happen ??

I think its a feature, not a bug. We took three supras (87, 89, 90) to Indy for a meet, all three cars had different mileage on their odometers. Mine was off the most from the other two. I did some testing, my car is 85% accurate - when it says 100, you are doing 85. The faster you go, the more its off. I have stock size tires, I have an auto tranny and I have confirmed the rear end is the stock 3.73. The local Toyota dealer refused to calibrate it. So, to make it more accurate at highway speeds, I moved the needle down so it rests at -5 mph. Its pretty accurate up to 45, and then its like 8 or 10 off at highway speeds. But if you find an answer to your issue, do post. I would like mine to be more accurate. BTW, my old 91 was pretty accurate. My two old 87s were off.

If it's always off a consistent amount, move the needle. If it's always off by a percentage but the odo is reading correctly, adjust the spring tension in the back of the gauge.

My odometer is incorrect as well. But that won't cause me to get a speeding ticket ;) I did follow this write-up, but couldn't get the needle off the face of the speedometer. In fear of breaking it, I decided to just move the needle down. Now I have a spare gauge cluster that I can practice on. I may just pull the gauge off of it and try it. But I don't know if it came off of a 5spd or auto.

If the odometer is also incorrect then the problem is not related to the gauge. In that case replacing the driven gear is the solution.
