SPecial Edition 1987 Turbo ????

I just bought a '87 Turbo, Black/grey int and it has "Special Edition" on the front fenders. WTF? Does anyone know anything about that or is it just something somebody stuck on there. The car seems completely original so i wouldnt think he just stuck it on there....says he didnt anyway. He bought it brand new and drove it as a salesman 150k miles on the interstate. When I get it here, I will take some pics and post them. Just wondering if I was getting something interesting.

I believe all supras are special. I think the previous owner who stamped it there just wanted to point out the obvious. ;D

Only somewhat special edition I know of is the white package.

Could be off of a 97, right? Anything told to you from a previous owner should be taken with a grain of salt.

No such thing, only special edition model MKIII's are technically the Turbo A

The MKI and MKII are considered Celicas, Supra was technically a "trim level," even in Japan where the MKI and MKII are known as the Celica XX. The MKIII was considered the 1st Supra.

There's no SE Supra. Only the JDM Turbo A which is very very rare and a RHD.
True is that the first 2 generations had the Celica Supra logo. In Japan were named Celica XX.
But main market was U.S.A. for this kind of GT sports car. And the U.S. market/dealers wanted a name
and not letters or numbers...and Toyota gave them what they wanted..'Supra'.
Many people consider the first two gen. Special Edition Celicas.. and the 1st (real) Supra the MA70 (mk3) .
And ofcaurse we have some stupid mk4 owners 'saying' that the only true real Supra is the mk4...(lame).

One thing is TRUE:
As a company Toyota co.ltd. back in 1979 wanted to produce a sport's coupe 2 door vehicle with a powerfull
6 cylinder motor along with luxury and comfortable stantards. They already had the Celica ,and they started
with that concept... while they named it XX model. The 1st gen. borrowed many parts from the celica that's
why they kept the celica logo beside the XX. The 2nd gen. had the same concept. The 3rd gen. was a totaly
new car,and the 1st turbo production Supra,followed by the 4th gen. Supra with the much sportier character!

no wonder we can swap the 2JZGTE with factory oem Toyota parts!!! They had no VIN nimbers since they were out

The first turbo supra was actually the MKI back in 1980 I believe, M-TEU or something...

it was still weak though, bearly more than 100 hp..

1978 and it was 110HP (that was actually pretty good at the time). It's only a bit over 2.5L though. Keep in mind those cars are still pretty damn fast as they're light as hell.

Its amazing how technology has changed, it used to be that 100hp / cubic inch was good, now we regularly see 100 per liter...

My scion xB has a 1.5L na engine that makes the same power as the 1st turbo Supra

Holy fuck, I'd looooooooove an engine putting out 100hp/CI. That would be ridiculous! 61 CI = 1.0L, at 100hp/CI, you'd be talking 6100hp out of a ONE liter engine.

Simple. As HP is calculated from torque and RPM, if the engine has the flow and dimensions to withstand high RPM, you'll make more HP. Look at motorcycles if you want a laugh
