i didnt think the TKO's were rated that high. i seemed to remember them being rated less than the Viper-spec T56's which were/are rated for capacities at that level. its been almost a year since i looked because i wanted to put a T5 variant in my 79 Trans Am. but the motor in my trans am is built for 400-430tq and thats about double what a regular T5 is rated for and i thought i discounted the 3550 since it wouldnt hang w/ what my 403 would make.

IJ: touche. :) i see what you were saying on the TKO

i think i had 3550 on the brain because it was almost perfectly matched to the power range of my TA
http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/products/TR-3550.asp

however, i must ahve been remembering the T5 tq capacities in general
http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/products/T-5.asp

but i "digest"....
there are a good number of people pushing 800rwhp thru R154's and havent destroyed them on the tq production alone. as far as ive seen, they only blew up due to driving techniques, such as drag racing and otherwise general gear-banging. but, shearing teeth off a gear/sprag, i have yet to see; not like subaru trannies, Yikes!

oh, so what are we looking at in terms of a twin disc for the 7M... price, tq capacity and availability? i serioulsy doubt id need a full-on triple or quad disc since i dont expect to make over 800tq at any given point in life.

Chris: When I broke my TKO we had it laid out on a bench side by side with a T56, the TKO looked like it was meant for a Kenworth in direct comparison!

5th gear is cut into the mainshaft it's so beefy, EVERYTHING inside it is just huge.

I ran a Custom Solid centre Ceramic/Metallic Twin OSGiken and it never slipped or did anything wrong.

TKO's come in 500 and 600tq ratings.

As I mentioned before, Spec has told me that this clutch set-up will be a full bolt in kit and will be like an OEM feel to it. :icon_bigg

Price:
I am sure Spec will be cheaper than the Tilton but I don't have a price yet (sorry) Will let everyone know as soon as I know.

Torque:
Spec makes both twin and super twin. The SUPER TWIN will be good for over 1000 RW Torque!. IIRC, they said around 1300 torque but again i need to confirm all info. The way Spec stacks the disks, they have no room to put a triple but no matter. People think a triple plate will hold more automatically but is obviously not the case.

Availability:
As soon as I get the first clutch, i will be testing it for them. Once I beat on my car for a while to make sure all is good, it will be available to the public right away. :icon_bigg

well, thats promising-ish. i mean, its gonna be more than what i want or need. i mean, itd be SWEET to build a 7M that actually needs a 1000tq capacity clutch to go anywhere but thats not something i have in my plans for the near future.

i dunno if that spec unit will be right for me, but i know that a single disc wouldnt ultimately be able to hold what my turbo can support. i know i told you about it over the phone a while back but its similar to your turbo but a little bigger ;) lets just say the Ogura is $1200, so i hope the spec will be somewhere in the ball park.

IJ... the TKO 5th gear is the mainshaft?? its not splined and pressed on??? sweet guinea pig of winnipeg! how did you end up destroying it though?

Spec will be a nice everyday clutch as stated. You confuse me with your statement though. One minute you are not needing a clutch for big power then you have a turbo that will require it?

I always keep something extra on the shelf ;)

Chris: Yep 5th is actually cut into the mainshaft it's that big!! :aigo:
(I'm serious I've seen truck gearboxes that had smaller shafts and gears!)

I missed a shift badly and trashed the 3rd syncro, no matter how good/strong a box is it won't cope with driver error too often before it shits the bed.

Lol... well, i guess we are in the same boat. i have alot of silly ideas i want to experiment with and dont wanna go straight for the big guns. so, its just my "something extra on the shelf" as you say", under my TV stand, in my bedroom. haha! i mean, for all intensive purposes, most of my crazy experiements would only be in the 600rwhp range. the T88 is the only idea i have that would go outside that range. i wanna try my diesel turbo, and i wanna try a sequential setup too but neither of those would justify the Duane-clutch ;)
