Well, the Spec Multi disk is in!

I want to thank a few people.

Tun_X aka Jason, (flew in from Utah and I picked him up in Seattle), Grimjack aka Dave and local, Darrell, Erik, (photographer for the feedback for Spec), Yeah, I know, we didn't need everyone to do this clutch but we all did a bit of everything. Both Jason and I were under car while Dave and Darell did some misc stuff on top of car, Erik did photos. Ron, Nate and Tom showed up to hang out also! It was basically a get together to have some fun and hang out party! Since my TSRM wouldn't open on my computer, I called Ian aka IJ in Australia for torque specs on the flywheel bolts (Thanks Ian :D) Tom, was all upset watching the football game with Seattle Seahawks as they lost. You ok Tom? :icon_razz

The Spec clutch was a well thought out unit. This kit converts the unit from pull to push. It is a puck clutch set-up with 1 disk that is sprung and 1 that wasn't along with a floater plate. The towers are different from other multi discs in that they are part of the pressure plate and not the flywheel. It seems that this would be a superior design as they would be less prone to seizing the floater to the towers. The floater plate is a little noisy when clutch pedal is depressed but that is what you get when you have HP goals like this and you need a clutch such as this. The throwout bearing and the slave cylinder are one piece that slides over the input shaft of the transmission. The engagement is not OEM but it is better than the previous RPS, that's for sure. It is a bolt in kit as they (Spec) mentioned with no modifications needed at all. Install was quite easy.

Thanks again to all and we all had a great time! Jason is still here and won't go away now, just kidding as he is over my shoulder right now :biglaugh: Drive him back to Seattle tomorrow for his flight back to Utah. Oh! He got to drive a RHD 1J Supra for the first time ever! :) Nice going sideways Jason! HAHAHA

A small video will be posted by Dave to show how the hydraulics work.

like most of us, wish we could have been there!.

how is pedle travle?

doesn't it slip well?, or you not tring to slip it much for break in??

always interested in a new clutch set up.

is there any other toyota clutch master that might be up to the task instead of using the willwood unit? say a 4x4 unit or mk4 that has a larger bore?

Wow you had all of the really cool people over at your house.......I now see where I fit in. Me and about four hundred other uncool people will be waiting for the video since our invites were lost in the mail. That's what I always tell myself when a really cool party is going on and I didn't get an invite. I always blame it on the mail lady and it makes me feel better about myself.

Is there a video of your car being driven with the new clutch, or are we just suppose to believe you when you say it's installed...........:evil2:

Damnit, I just found my invite in here with all of the bills I was throwing away.

Whether you would be able to use a different clutch master doesn't matter IMO as this comes in the kit. ;) Pedal feel and travel is good too. I drove it in 1st and 2nd gear but I was on jack stands LOL :biglaugh:

All invites got sent out Jay. If you paid your bills more often, you could have been here. :biglaugh: I made a few second video to show how the clutch slave works but Dave has it on his computer. I have w few pics but Erik has them and hasn't sent them to me yet. It is early here and I am off to drive Jason back to airport in Seattle. It's a 3 hour drive but a plus as I get to see Ron's car on the way. We saw Nate's and Tom's car on the way up to my place. It was raining Jay so no driving video other than on jack stands. That count? :D

Later guys/gals!

A few pictures....

Stock bellhousing interior - the new slave setup bolts to the old clutch for pivot point.
spec_twin_4310.JPG

We've removed the old pivot point and bolted on the new slave mount.
spec_twin_4312.JPG

And then just slide the new slave over the input shaft.
spec_twin_4315.JPG

Note that both 90 degree couplers need to be on the slave side.
spec_twin_4316.JPG

Then we slide on the pressure plate, first disc, spacer plate, and second disk. Note the way that spec has kindly labeled the direction the discs need to face.
spec_twin_4318.JPG

The original instructions wanted us to route the lines through the inspection plate, but we decided to put them through the OEM slave hole instead. One line goes to the master, the other line is the bleeder, so you can still bleed the system without taking the whole thing apart.

Here is the aluminum flywheel bolted up to the rear of the crankshaft.
spec_twin_4321.JPG

Notice the steel insert, fastened on with no less than 20 bolts! Even if you shatter this puppy, I can't imagine any escaping chunks would be bery big.
spec_twin_4322.JPG

Notice the felt pen mark across the pressure plate, spacer disc, and flywheel. I scribed this on outside the car on the bench. The spacer plate only fits in one way, but it's close enough to make you think it'll fit in the other two spots.

At minimum a nice rubber grommet for where the old slave was, and now the lines pass through..

Very cool indeed.

I'm interested in this, but not sure that I need it.

Let us know how engagement is around town.. that is where my current setup sucks the most.. It is all off, or on. NO smooth engagement possible.

Hmm I didn't think the whole thing was going to move with the bearing. I guess it don't matter. But on mine and Nate's, the slave stays put and only the piston and bearing actuates so the lines don't move. That's a little different in design. Awesome setup Duane!!! D aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmn!!!!!!!!!
