Im not too mechanically inclined, but I've changed spark plugs/wires etc. on other vehicles. When looking at the mk3 Im kind of depressed because it looks like the whole throttle body assembly has to come off. Is there another way around it, because there's a lot of hoses and screws there, and I REALLY need new plugs, the car is missing bad. I just got the car, but unfortunately I don't have much time to work on it for a few more weeks. I know I will have to take the whole assembly off to clean out oil down in there, and the valve cover gaskets are bad, but again, not much time for that right now. If anyone knows of an online howto, let me know please. Thanks!

P.S. If this has already been posted/covered I appologized. I searched all over the place and didn't find anything, so maybe I just didn't look right.

turbo or not??

you dont have to remove hte throttle body.

just the 3000 pipe it disconnects from tb right over the intake cam, throttle cable assembly, coil pack needs to move, and thats all you should have to remove, a deep socket and extension will make your life much easier and with that stuff removed you can easily manuver <-(spelling) the valve covers off. took me 1 hour to do whole thing but i was cleaning and wiping every part i took off 1 by one taking my merry ass time.

g/l.

NICE!! Im an idiot. That was so obvious, but the bolts just kind of blend in with the pipe so I didnt even see them. Thanks a lot man. Also, the intake hose that connects to the tb (just the short one) on my car is cracked and old. Its letting air in, but my local toyota dealer wants $105 for it. Anyone have any ideas on what to use to fabricate one? Im thinking if I can find that type of hose somewhere I can just trim it to fit.

oh, and it's an NA, not turbo... for now. (maybe in a year I'll drop in a 7mgte. )

Go to a junkyard and pull it from there. I'm pretty sure supras are a dime a dozen there. While you have all that stuff off, you might as well do the valve cover gaskets since those are well known to leak.

If I recall correctly, you do need to pull the Y pipe on the NA to change spark plugs.

As for hoses, either get silicone hoses from any local speed shop / High Temp Silicone, or buy the stock hoses from Jay Marks / Champion Toyota, either will likely be a fair bit cheaper than your local Toyota rip off department. :(

You might be able to replace it with a silicone one. I've never seen it in person but from those pics it looks like you could cut a 45* piece to fit in there.

that looks awesome... I could get some blue, or red, and do some of the other hoses maybe. That's a lot cheaper for sure though, thanks!

The throttle body will come off with the Y pipe. It's pretty much going to have to look like this to change the plugs:

Well I kinda figured I'd have to do that, but I was hoping there was an easier way. Im just going to have to limp on the old plugs for now until I have time to tear it all apart and replace the valve cover gaskets as well. thanks for the pics!
