Weight in the rear is your friend!
That being said, I believe the space saver from the MKII may fit. If you save weight back there, you should re-locate something from the front to the extra room you create. Put your battery back there, or get a 5 gallon fuel cell, and ditch the big heavy tank.

The MKII spare is full size (at least it is on my bro's), and the wheels are tiny, so I doubt it would clear the brakes.

i have one off a RX-8. seems exactly the same as the RX-7 spare only mine is yellow.:boink: very light.
pull the spare and replace it with a subwoofer! That and a full tank of gas should keep the weight even...
