Sound Deadening in the Trunk

I've searched and found some related threads, but I'm looking specifically for this topic.

The interior of my car will be painted. The sound deadening in my trunk is looking ugly since parts of it have melted, so I wanna remove it and not paint over it. (I won't be putting the wood and trunk carpet back into the car, leaving the trunk exposed.)

I just want to know about first hand experience from those who have removed sound deadening material. Could you tell me about the extra noise that I may experience, e.g., vibrations, exhaust, road debris.

You will need to tell us what you are using. I am using some Dynamat and am sure it will be just about impossible to remove. You will probably have to scrape forever andf use acetone to wipe it clean. Good luck... I would not repaint the interior, but maybe use another layer of Dynamat... the sound from the exhaust and other road noise will drive U nuts.

Here's what mine looks like, but hasn't been in too long yet.

With my latest build, I decided that I was gonna deaden some of the road noise, rattles and noises from a 16-year old car, and drone I get from my HKS muffler.

After doing the install myself, I just don't see it as something I'd be able to undo without ALOT of work. Covering it up with trim and carpet and forgetting about it.

Even with the gas tank in between the road and the trunk, do you still experience road noise from debris?

How effective is the dynomat, that you used, in reducing the road noise, exhaust drone, etc?

I havent removed the deadening layer but I pulled everything else from the trunk. I figured its just plastic and some wood it cant be doing That much for sound. My first drive with the gutted trunk was night/day, not so much louder but I herd alot more sounds. I can hear rocks hitting the inner fenders or rocks hitting under the car clearly now. Exhaust seems a lil more noticeable but not much.

Just seems I hear more not really all over louder but who knows. I dont mind the sound and plan to remove the deadening layer as well. I want to go with a truck bed liner so well see...

My interior is already gutted (w/ the all sound deadening in still in place). The only sound deadening materials that I am considering removing are those in the trunk. I think I will be driven nuts if I removed the sound deadening in the passenger compartment.

I don't intend on replacing the factory sound deadening material in the trunk area with anything. I was just gonna paint the trunk and leave it as is. Just gonna put the plastic pieces back in, leaving the wood and carpet out.

Proven to be very effective at significantly reducing noise (maybe not entirely eliminating it). I haven't finished my swap and had it drive-able yet to tell. But if I do hear road noise (tires and other normal driving-around sounds), then I will add a layer of Dynaliner in the hatch area as well. I added some of that in the driver/passenger area already. The quieter the cabin area, the better.

I still have to Dynamat the doors, but am trying to figure out what size speakers will fit plug-n-play into the 91's 6" speaker pods.

Yes you will hear the road, some wind noise, rocks hitting the fender lining if your tires pick up debris. You will hear the water if it's raining, any suspension clunks or clicks or squeaks or any noise that will be previously muffled will now seem amplified.

Having ANYTHING back there will muffle the sound, even just the interior plastic pieces. With everything removed it will be quite loud and you will hear EVERYTHING.

After you remove the sound deadener there will be lots of residue left behind. It will not look pretty, if you're dead set on removing it I suggest cleaning it up and painting over it.

I used a carpet kit to cover the residue the sound deadener left behind.

I hope you plan on removing a bunch of weight from the front of the car to compensate for what you're removing from the rear, if you don't the car will be completely off balance.
