I commute 2 hours one way to work. I'm a private contractor, and I have been using AutoCAD for about 12 years now. Problem is, when I need a job, and there's something available, I take it. And this one, well, it's 2 hours from home.

Lately a couple of people have been taking time off. That leaves a lot of work for me. I've been working 10 and 12 hours, and my drive time is 4 hours if trafic is good. I'm so tired right now I just about fell asleep on my way to work.

:1zhelp:

So anyone have good tips on staying awake? If nothing else, maybe laughing would help. LOL :icon_conf

Work at home.

Our professions are very similar. I'm self employed, using Microstation for 11 years now. This is 2006, dood! I've might have gone to one jobsite in the last three or four years, and that was only to poke my head in to say hi. I don't print any drawings, I email them to the contractor so they can.....

My job is a little more involved actually, although like you say, very similar. The difference, and that reason I have to be on site, is that I work directly with the field guys inputing redlines as they come in. I fix coordination problems for them on the spot, and I also do MEP coordination with all other professions on the site. Not only that, but I then design electrical runs and locations per where everyone else is running.

So, I need to be on site, or trust me... I'd be staying home!!!

Take a short power nap sometime during the day (no more than 30 min) and drink a lot of coffee also. Think of something special that you want to do that makes your day more interesting and not just about work. All these things have worked for me to a certain extent.

Solid works is a really good program. AutoCAD used to be very keyboard oriented, now it's gone the way of point-and-click programs. Blah. But AutoCAD is so versital that it makes it one of the most common programs in construction. I've used about all the CAD programs, AutoCAD is still one of my favorite to use.

I took a bit of a nap in the car at lunch. I'm feeling a little better now. I think I'll probably take one more nap before I head for home, and I'll probably stop half way in between at a rest area to walk around a bit. That should do the trick.

Should be 20 mins. Any more you can go into deep sleep and feel worse for it.

I remember watching news clip here in the UK, where a place in New York has a cafe style place where you can take a power nap in your lunch hour.
