I love my ps3. Worth every penny to me.

$500 for the ps3 and like $700+ worth of games... lol

RockBand has definitely helped get plenty of use out of my ps3

Lack in game titles I desire doesn't justify the price I'd pay for a console to sit around to collect dust.

The price they want for the consoles is way to high. At least the Wii comes with a game for that $250.

Anyone on here upgraded their hard drive?

I'm looking at the Hitachi 7K200 series 200GB hard drive. I think it's the world's fastest laptop HD currently...

Any takers?

Depends on what you're using yours for ;)

I'll be putting a lot of demos, trailers, movies, and music on mine.

From the one review I've read where someone actually put one in thier PS3, they stated that loading and saving from the hard drive times were cut in half due to the 16MB memory buffer and 7200 RPM operating speed.

IIRC Seagate are the makers of the HD's in the PS3s from the factory, they don't make one this big and fast with as much memory as the Hitachi...

^ if you get it and verify... I'd be interested in shorter load times.

Just to follow up here, I installed my Hitachi 7K200 series 200GB SATA Hard Drive into the PS3 yesterday.

Be warned, you'll most likely need to either bum a friend's external USB HD, or buy your own when you start backing up you HD data for the switchover... My 4GB jumpdrive didn't cut it, and you can't pick and choose what you want to have copied, you can however, copy your game saves individually onto the jumpdrive to put it on the new one. Please note however, some game saves will not let you do even this. Need For Speed Prostreet's game saves are copy protected, so I'm fucked there.

Anyways, got the old one out and the new one in with no issues, formatting the 200GB took about 1.5 minutes, amazingly enough...

Loading times with this new hard drive are about 25%-35% faster, but saving games are where this hard drive shines. It saves games about twice as fast as my previous HD (which, oddly enough, was also a Hitachi HD. I was under the impression that Sony used Seagate HD's based on everyone elses feedback on theirs over the net).

I highly recommend this HD to anyone needing/wanting to upgrade :bigthumb:

Does anyone know though when the price cut takes affect, will the 80G still have the backwards comptability? I've heard that that feature will be dropped?

LOL. I bought a 60gb at full price last july and had to sell it last march. I just bought the 40gb to get back in the game. While the 360 may have more titles, I am not all that interested in many of them.

The first rainbow six and ghost recon games are now $30. I am playing the hell out of the first rainbow six atm. I hear the 2nd one is even better. Bad Company was a short game, but virtually endless destructable environments make for a decent game.

Once FF vs XIII comes out it's all over for my life :)

You might want to watch the heat now caused by the new HD. I read some people putting in new drives getting alot more heat off them.

Im going to be swapping out my hd soon, Ill prolly go with the one you have. I keep mine well vented and dont do 40hr sessions, so heat Shouldnt be a huge factor ; )

I just need to sort out how Im going to backup the current drive, I only have small 1gig jump drives lol. Ill have to get an external usb enclosure I guess. How does the backup process work, do you need a 3rd drive to backup to? Or, can you use the new formated drive to copy the files over to then just use it?
