I put my new HKS SQV BOV on today, and what do I get??? A nice flutter. At low boost and at high boost. So I know its going to destroy the turbo if it continues.

So how can I fix it??

I have the vaccum line as short as possible and its a strong vaccum source. I cant move the bov because the flange isnt removable (unless I buy a new 1 and weld it somewhere else). Ive read on how to fix it, but it just wont go away. Ive had a few guys say "its normal".....no its not. Unless I own the unique bov from hks. And yes it is an actual hks bov. not some cheap knock off.

Your confusing turbo surge (which kills turbos), with BOV flutter.
BOV flutter is not going to hurt a turbo.
The Euro ralley cars have BOVs the flutter all the time.

BOV flutter can be caused by too soft of vaccuum lines, that will allow a resonence to start up, like when you fart.
Stiffer lines, or run partial hard lines (like aluminum tubing) will help reduce it.

Turbo surge happens under full throttle,
and is cause by an impropperly sized turbo stalling because of it trying to push more air than what some little pissy engine will take.
(trying to put 10 lbs shit in a 1 pound bag).

You're 100% sure it wont hurt the turbo? It flutters really bad.

i wouldn't keep boosting if its turbo surge it's not good for your turbo. does it only happen at low boost? i have a tial 50mm and at really low boost it will give a light flutter. is yours adjustable? if it is i would try and adjust it so its open at idle then tighten it just enough so it stays closed then try it.

Im not sure if its adjustable or not..Ill have to check, but I dont think it is. There it happens at low boost, and high boost. I ran the car to about 5500 rpms in second gear and let off, and it fluttered faster than a humming bird.

Im not going to keep boosting, I know it detroys the turbo. But will it hurt to to just drive the car like a grandma for a while, at least until i fix this??

True turbo surge:

Note that this is happening under boost, not when the throttle is chopped.

Seen that vid quite a few times. See I dont know if my turbo is doing that because Im not keeping it under load long enough for it to do that. I know the bov is fluttering and every hks ssqv bov ive heard does not flutter like that.

Correct me if I'm wrong - cause I didn't own an HKS BOV - but don't the HKS BOVs make a flutter sound when venting? Isn't that their signature sound? Like Greddy's high pitch sound?

Im gonna be pissed if its suppose to flutter and ive been breaking my balls to fix it.

Ij, my camera is dead. Its about 4 to 5 inches away from the 3000 pipe. This is the pipe, the orange coupler is connected to the 3000 pipe.

The older HKS SSQV had an adjustment screw the newer HKS BOV's dont so youre going to surge at low boost.

Mine flutters at low boost, but at full boost its just that annoying "psssh". Here's a video of mine.

OP, if you wanna see the difference between bov flutter and surge, simply take off the vac line to your bov...I wouldn't do it much, and I'm not responsible for any damage;)

I'm with IJ, need a pic plz, or better yet, a vid. Is that a upgraded CT26, or a rebuilt one ? Im kinda wanting to think the shaft is not tight or something, causing the turbine to free-spin a bit. I've seen several boosted cars with this same problem and all of them had this excessive shaft play, or something very similar...due to either being worn out, or just not tightened up enough. Every HKS bov I've ever heard has the unmistakable vent-whistle, which is sharp and quick. Any variations in sound, and something is up. Post a vid asap plz.
