This is one of my favorites. Since an internal combustion engine is a type of motor.

A motor is a device that converts energy into motion. Coming from the Latin, motive, meaning to move. Hence the steam engine is also called a locomotive, which is an external combustion engine.

I heard some desk jockeys talking about it and just smiled. One had the typical, " a motor is an electrcial device, that is an engine" routine.

Then wouldnt muscles be considered a motor? Since they turn energy into motion. What about a spring?

Ill finish by saying Engine is a sub-category of motor. Since the definition of motor is so broad.

Whenever some stupid SOB calls a Magazine a Clip.

I swear, if ever there should be a legal reason to pistol whip some sad sack of crap for saying something, that should be it.

Yes. Have you ever heard of hand eye cooridination refered to as good motor skills?

It is a type of motor. An engine is a motor that provides some sort of drive. Some motors are stationary, and only rotate. So you are correct.

Sounds like a GOP bumpersticker.

eh, motor, engine... i like to refer to internal combustion as engines, and electric motors.....
but i'll find myself saying motor for engine, but never engine for motor...

no argument here.

its all in what people feel like saying,

engine sounds somewhat 'better' or 'cooler' to say then motor, like i think of a v8 or an inline 6 when someone says engine, but when they say motor i think of a lawnmower.

in regards to clips and magazines, clips are just faster to say, regardless if it isnt accurate. ive always said clips, even though i know a magazine is a more formal and accurate way to say it.

That shouldnt be scary at all. I own every firearm that takes those mags. In some cases, multiples of it as well. 4 1911s, 3 AK47s, 3 AR15s. Only one each of the rest though.
