I thought they had their own vet...

Most have Banfields (I worked at one for a while). Most vets and techs are wary of giving out medical advice without seeing the pet for fear of lawsuits.

I, on the other hand, am happy to dispense whatever advice I can give, as long as I preface it with "see your vet regardless." :p

Looks like a case of fleas, dry skin, or a rash of some kind. May also be an irritation caused by:

-Fleas
-Dry skin
-Ring Worm
-A previous would healing, causing the kitty to scratch at it
-Allergy to food
-Allergy to medicine

Take your cat to Petsmart and ask them...
They might offer you free advice.

I know someone who is a vet and I could print the pic out and ask them.

Cheers,
Roy

thanks man. sadly somehow we havent taken her to the vet yet...i'm at school all day and my mom has been doing important things every day. thankfully my cat's sore is getting better, it's not red like it was and seems to be healing... there are a lot of little black dots smaller than fleas though..... hopefully she'll just get better but I'll keep an eye on her sore every day....

and for the tags...i found out i payed for them and never got them in the mail as far as we know. Probably stolen or something. so i got a new tag for a small fee and i'm going to lower the ticket for fixing it and then contest it because it wasn't really my fault i didn't get the tags and it just slipped my mind... for a long time but its not something i think about. aside the point.

thank you all so much for your help and opinions on this.

At the very least, you can keep it clean and dry 'til you get to the vet. Get some chlorahexadine at PetSmart to wash the area with.

(edit: Seems not all PetSmarts carry it - the Banfield can sell you some wipes with it for a couple bucks. I'm sure any other vet could, too. )

(edit again! This is what you're looking for. )

Looks like your pussy has herpes but I'm not a vet or even a semi-competent person so it's all relative.

...not herpes. Seeing a cat with herpes is one of the saddest things ever.
Their eyes basically explode.

thank you Theresa. Thankfully it's dry and until i get something i'll wipe it with a warm rag to clean and then with the dry end of the rag to dry it. its not showing any sort of excretion from the mild sores or anything so hopefully it is healing.

One other thing worth mentioning- plastic feeding bowls have often been linked to feline acne, so if that's what you use you may want to switch to steel or ceramic. I've used plastic bowls as long as I've had my girls (6 years) with no problems, but they're all different. I used to work for a vet and we frequently saw irritation/acne; one of the first things they recommended was to switch the bowls. I also second the chlorhexidine- good stuff! And PetsMart is not a good place to get advice- please only listen to your vet or educated animal people. :)
*Thanks for actually caring about your cat, too- it drives me nuts to see them in trouble and neglected!!
