Something is wrong with my cat's chin... all of a sudden we noticed this sore and today there was a little blood on her white chest fur so its still rather "open" and tender...but i cant tell if it's gotten worse, it hasn't gotten better.

I was hoping it was just a little scuff from a mean animal but I'm worried it could be something more serious that needs treatment, we're taking her to the vet tomorrow but I wanted to see what everybody here had to say... it looks like she's lost significant fur density there.

if it makes any difference i have 5.5 acres of woods and a variety of wild animals...no problems so far (years) but last week my other cat had a very minor fur loss on his face, like a little patch smaller than the eraser tip of a pencil ripped of...no blood, just a bare spot. now my other cat is having issues. i dont know if there is a correlation. if anyone had advice it's very welcome.

Sorry for the excessive size but i felt larger is better in this case. i may remove some once the thread gets going if anybody has any input. you can see how much fur she has lost if you compare the surrounding fur...

thanks very much in advance for any ideas. I am taking her to the vet so dont worry too much, hah, but yeah i couldn't just let it go untouched until tomorrow i'm thinking it about it now.

It "looks" to just be irritation. Many cats get similar looking rashes because they scratch it too much. Either there are fleas or ticks that is bothering this area (could just be skin irritation too). Take the cat to the vet just to be sure, but in the rare case that one of my cat has a flea or two (he seems to be allergic to them) he gets a rash like this on his chin and by his tail. A squirt of Advantage seems to cure him.

allright. I didnt think of the scratching problem. thanks man! I appriciate it. :)

you know its really weird...we JUST bought a new cat carrier at a yard sale on Saturday because we only had one and we have two cats... almost felt like a sign when we decided one needed the vet tomorrow...

You are doing the right thing and taking to the vet to check it out. It could just be an irrtated spot and scratched or it could be from a fight with another animal but can be hard to tell just from pics and not being there in person.

2nd on "Appears to be Cat Acne".

They'll probably shave it, clean it, and send you home with some chlorahexidine or other mild antibiotic cleanser to continue to clean it. I'm pretty sure you can actually buy chlorahexidine at PetSmart these days.

She looks to have a fairly bad case of it; she's VERY red and irritated. I'm glad you're taking her to the vet. She might go home with some mild antibiotics, too.

appears to be feline acne, get a hands on opinion from your vet.
Not too uncommon, I see a case or two a month. Hopefully she will appreciate being treated more than most of my patients do

I wanted to be a mechanic, my parents said that was not an option.....

I wanted to be a vet for the longest time, until I worked for one. I would murder half the people who came through the door.

"Oh, gee, my dog's ears are so infected they're swollen shut. What? No, I don't know how long it's been like that. We only see him when we go to throw food for him."

Take your cat to Petsmart and ask them...
They might offer you free advice.

I know someone who is a vet and I could print the pic out and ask them.

Cheers,
Roy
