it's a steel ring.. not rubber.. and wouldn't rubber melt? lol
and how would it stop vibration.. it's in the middle of the rotor in the vents (which you can see easily i guess lol)
When the rotors are spinning the rubber acts as a damper for vibration, it dosen't stop it comletely.(it helps with the up/down vibration, not side to side.) Yes rubber would probably melt. They *might* be used to sort of "balance" the rotor? That's my guess.
I imagine a steel band could be employed in much the same way that the rubber bands are, except for long term use. Naturally, it wouldn't dampen vibration as much.
I have only used rubber when cutting a rotor. Ive never seen a rubber absorbant that was meant to be driven on. I know my nova came from the factory witht he drums wrapped in steel sprigs to stop vibration.
