ok so i had my 7m fully built, head, .40 over je forged pistons, eagle rods, arp bolts with mhg to 90 ftlbs.. ok so i got it back up and running.. but it idles really high/rough and cuts out some times... the check engine lite is on.. i ran the codes and it said knock sensor and afm... it somokes sometimes... mostley under boost.. dark smoke.. well alot under boost... when i try to get on it it spudders, smokes then takes off... the motor only has 50 miles on it... oh and it has no muffler on it.. just stright 3" dp/elbow.. i put way tooo much $$ into this thing for it not to run right...
if the problam is the afm can i just do the lexus afm? with out the 550 injecters.. i dont have the$$ for those right now...

Boost leak. Check your boost hoses and make sure they are tight. Also, recheck your timing, and make sure you have the diagnostic terminals jumped!

Check to make sure your knock sensors are broken and the wires are good to go.

Going lexus and no 550's is a no no.

dont mess with the afm, its probably fine. clear the codes, check the wiring to the knock sensors,(make sure they're clipped in correctly and that the wiring isnt broken or frayed. Check EVERY single fitting between the turbo and the intake. Check to make sure every sensor and plug you can find is totally plugged in and clipped on correctly. Set the timing with the check connector in place. Drive it, then check codes again. Then update us.

NEVER touch the sensor on the AFM with anything unless you know the proper way to clean this specific sensor or you will most like tear it up. If you want to clean the housing, take the sensor out first, and make absolutely sure that the housing is dry, vapor free when installing the sesor again. The AFM sensor is extrememly fragile when it comes to cleaning.

Fix the *knock sensor* code you are getting, that's cutting your power off badly.

I was going to suggest that but I thought "Nah no one could be that stupid"

<shhhh I only know cos I did it way back couldn't work out why my car would run fine on LPG but would only idle on Gas when it was dual fuel) :D

:wavey:

I've done it before too Ian ;). I'm not affraid to admit it, lol.

The Supra will run without the AFM plugged in *if * there isn't any other major issues with the car, just don't expect the car to get up and go anything like it would with if plugged up.
