Some ideas I've got (LEDs, washer stuff, etc) - give me your opinions!

Well, you can't search for the term LED on the site (that bites, btw) so I want some opinions

I'm thinking of replacing all the bulbs and LEDs in the car with fresh ones (the window switches, the key ring - which is a bulb, btw - the dash lights, the climate control setup, etc).

So my question is this - has anyone figured out how the driver's side master power window switch comes apart? I remember not being able to figure it out on my old switch :3d_frown:

I may go blue, I may stay green - I haven't decided on colors yet.

BTW, was anyone aware we have a freaking rear windshield washer?? I had no idea until I pulled everything apart, and found a random washer line going to the back of the car - TSRM'd it, and sure enough! Rear windshield washer. This car is so pimp.

Next idea, I want to ditch my Silverstars - They produce a metric shit ton of light, but I want to go a step better, and go with a set of composites. I was originally thinking of going with the Hella 200mm setup but then I got to thinking - why not just go with a thinner headlight? Something like the NSX setup.

Or maybe a set of Hella's 4x6.5" lights - anyone tried them out yet? That's 2" shorter than stock, and should improve the looks of the headlights a bit.

*edit* eeh... scratch that idea - they are designed for a 4 headlight setup.

Maybe a set of high and low 90mm Projectors from Hella would be the ticket...

Just ideas I'm tossing out - what do you guys/gals think?

Yeah, there's a rear windshield washer, but it doesn't work as well as the front one. It kind of pours water in a lazy stream down the rear windshield lol. People have replaced the LEDs in the dash with brighter ones and in different colors. I've seen blue, red, but I like the green IMO. If you want to ditch the Silverstars, you might want to try retrofitting HIDs into your car. That's what I'm about to do once I go 1jz. I already have E46 Bi-xenon projectors, ballasts and bulbs. Retrofitting correctly makes the car look awesome. Look at hidplanet's website for more information, but I'm sure you know what real HIDs are.

FYI - The door's key ring uses a 12v LED. The column key ring is a bulb.

The master window switch comes apart in a couple steps. First is pulling off the transparent nylon back side of the enclosure. Then you need to remove the two buttons, there are 4 screws that come out of the front of the assembly, I can't recall if all of them or just two of them are hidden by switches though, so look closely. The LED's are on a small daughter board. It's an easy job after you've been through it once. ;)

The accessory switches can be a bit of a pain.

Yeah, the rear washer sucks. I've been meaning to redo all of my washer nozzles with "on-arm" fluidic nozzles, got the nozzles, just need to find the time now.

Enough info has been posted on this recently, so I'll skip the recap.

EDIT:
Oh and if you want to change the lighting on the TEMS display you can use 0805 footprint surface mount LEDs.... it's a mega bitch.

If you want to do the TEMS display, it uses LED die laminated to the board. Use a small razor blade to scrape them and the laminate from the PCB. Then I recommend you pre-tin the copper pads where you'll be soldering the new LEDs. You'll need a VERY steady hand to place the replacement LEDs.

One of these days I'll do a writeup on all of this... I've got enough modded and stock switches lying around.
