Could you at least identify what the other driver gestured at you?
He could have been saying;America's number 1!, or some shit like that.
the simple fact that you flipped him off for no reason other than brake checking you kinda puts you at fault. society is full of assholes, from those who high kick fenders,to those who stand on soap boxes and scream they are right all the time.
you have to pick your battles

hell yeah i could identify what he gestured at me. the sun was at my back and i could see him perfectly in his rearview. he for sure flipped me off too, before i flipped him off and he was yelling something. the point is i know how to choose my battles and i think i made the right choice to drive away.
i'm not exactly a violent person but if the need arises i can and will defend myself and my property, it's a right given to me by the great state of illinois, the real illinois not chicago land.
in fact i wasn't really pissed off until he kicked my baby, if he hadn't have gotten out of his car we would have both forgotten all about it by now.
i see where you're coming from though, i would have been happy to get flipped off but i reacted harshly and got my car scuffed/dented.

haha yeah obviously you've never seen a judge with speed clips before. i can zip that case open, load, cock and empty that thing in under 30 seconds.
i know i've seen me do it.
i had my tools too, i thing a torque wrench would be just as good against and unarmed civilian

That's nice. I don't say this to embarrass you, I say it simply to dispel some very childish bullshit you're spreading.

If you had any level of tactical training, you'd realize that most gunfights occur at ranges of less than 20 feet and the average reaction time is .22 seconds to draw from an exposed holster.

A man with a knife can run a minimum of 21 feet and stab you in the time it takes to react, draw and shoot from an exposed holster.

This is why people who are trained focus on situational awareness and have a firearm drawn well before there is an overt threat. Police departments train this as well. They like dead cops about as much as I like macho bullshit when it comes to firearms.

I hate to tell you, but by the time you think about getting your gun out of it's cute little storage box and loading it, you blood will be congealing on the sidewalk. Do yourself a favor, just run, your boxed up firearm isn't a real option.

Stop watching television, the real world is going to put a hurt on your ass if you keep living in that fantasy.

And I hope for the sake of everyone around you that you understand the spread on .410 shot on those things is larger than man size beyond 8 feet - that gun has a lot of hype and gimmick surrounding it - but to be a defensive weapon it needs to be loaded with .45's. Skip the .410 shotshell bullshit and it's halfway decent self defense piece. Personally I'll stick with my .45 auto...

I have had this happen to me, best thing to do Is drive off. I think its just this part of the world. People get so stressed and there's almost no easy quick release in this part of the world. When I'm at school in west palm beach I can have the worst day ever and it still tops a normal bad day here in Ohio. I find people to be much happier down there than up here any day of the week.

Must be the air.

have you ever seen a knife stab through a window or a locked supra door? i didn't think so.
i was sitting comfortably in the safety of my car, i didn't even try to get out of the car thus he wouldn't have had much of a chance to stab me. this leaves the possibility of a) firearm: he could have shot through my window before i could react or b) blunt trauma: he could have beaten my window out with a bat etc. and then beat me with said blunt object
he had no weapon that i could see.
but the possibility of him having a weapon was not lost on me, thats why i got the hell outta there...fast.
im not trying to be "macho"
also i've found that the .410 slugs tend to do more damage than the .45 colt at close range.

i think you have my situation confused with a duel or something. either way everything worked out fine...nobody died, was hurt, or went to jail and i'm ok with that

Considering I've put my fist through a tempered drivers side window before (not to be confused with a windshield, big difference), I suspect a knife, with its focused point of impact would do quite nicely.

Really.

My experience is exactly the opposite.

Independent research also indicates differently:

I'm not specifically discussing "your situation", I'm refuting your statement about being able to get an unloaded gun out of a locked box and loading it quickly (30 seconds) as reasonable defensive posture. It's stupid, and in 99 out of 100 scenarios, it would likely get someone killed. I'm glad it worked out for you, for most people it doesn't.

supracentral needs to write a book on his ideals and morals, as I may have disagreed with him on a point or two, but after reading his posts he is able to sway my opinions, I would be very interested in a book full of his rants and raves about the world

30 seconds is an eternity in a serious situation. You're not even considering the psycological effect of "Is that guy really pulling a gun on me?!" and the tension arising from the situation itself.

I contend that a gun that is 30 seconds away is 28 seconds too late.

Hmm not to take anything from the comments made here but as a officer and having gone through the training I have, shooting someone in the chest with two rounds and/or putting one in the head will be only "justified" if there is a articulable threat. ie... same situation but add a bat, tire iron, knife or other tool that if used in such a manner could/would cause serious bodily harm or death. That would be the most probable time I would use my service weapon. Remember these are the times when people sue for anything. There are a "million" video phones out there and everyone with one thinks they are the new steven spielberg. :)
In a nut shell all I'm saying is that when using deadly force on a person be sure that you had no other alternative. Because the person you killed has family and they will first try to come at you in criminal court and if they can't get you via criminal court they will surely take your butt through civil court. And in civil court all they have to show is negligence on your part and they could win a settlement.
But hey we're all grown here and we all know how the world really works. Do what you think you should do but just be prepared to deal with the aftermath. That's just my .02 and to the guy that started this thread I think you showed good judgement. All that was bruised was your fender. Had you used deadly force you just would have a bruised a-hole from all your new cell block buddies. :) and I'm sure you don't want to chance that ;)

I come from a land down under
Just need to shout "he's coming right for us" ;)

In all seriousness DON'T point a gun at someone unless you're willing to take their life and face the consequences of that action.

blanks, shooting to wound it's all bullshit.

That's why the first two things you train is situational awareness and avoidance.

Shooting someone is always the last resort, don't get me wrong. The best gunfight is the one you avoided.
