Solution to Spark Blowout

Well I finally got my car running tonight and took it out for a spin. Anyways I am getting really bad blowout at around 18psi sometimes if I go lightly I can get it to pull smoothly through one gear but if I shift and get into it I get it really bad. It will even make it so you have to get completly out of it. I already have some heat range 9 ngk iridium plugs gapped at .028. I tried gapping them down to .024 and it didn't help at all so I am starting to blame the coils.

On further inspection I noticed the insulation on the wires for the cam sensors were cracked and showing bare wires where they go into the connector.:nono: I didn't take a picture because I am sure you have all seen it before. Could this be causing my problem? I am going to fix it anyways but are these wires supposed to be shielded with something special or are normal copper wires ok?

I am also thinking it could be the coils as I am running an aem which uses waste spark and these coils are pretty old. How do the lsx coils handle this? I am thinking about grabbing a set.

What do you guys think about all this? Any suggestions? I want to do this right the first time so it won't screw me once I go to get it tuned again:3d_frown:

90% BET you have cracked coil packs, pull off the rubber and look for the cracks... solution? Buy new ones or epoxy them. Furhter more if you are aem like you say you need a DLI otherwise spark is too weak. If your coils weren't cracked before the DLI they will be after that's for sure. Had had 4 sets all of them cracked.. Especially cracked after the dli.

DLI?? in all my experience that stands for distributor less ignition, please explain.
Any certain kind of epoxy you would recommend? Other wise I'm going to use JB weld, if that doesn't fix it completely I want to try different coils, Do you have any suggestions?

I just fixed my old coil packs with some .75" heat shrink. Not as messy as the epoxy method and you dont have to wait 24 hrs to drive. I fixed my old set for fun in 5 minutes with the heat shrink while waiting for my backup set to dry from the epoxy

I got different coils on mine... I can snap some pictures on monday. They work great I have had as much as 35psi through them no problems. PnP cost me about 350... Had to make a plate to mount them.

Have you tried the ngk copper plugs (4644) and gap it to .022?

I'm running the copper plugs @ .025 and boosting 22psi with no spark blowout. My coils gotta be in good shape. ;)
